My NavigationSplitView is very simple. The DetailView contains Table populated with data. SideBar populated with items that act as a filter for Table content. If I'm on the SideBar and hit Command-A, I never want to select everything in the sidebar. I always want to select all the content for a detail view. This is how Finder works.
I tried to set
List(...) {
...
}
.focusable(false)
When I launch the application, Command-A works exactly as I would like. But when I select another "filter" in sidebar with the mouse, the List becomes focusable.

Hi,
I've recently observed a sudden increase in support requests for one of my apps on the Mac App Store, reporting the error " is damaged and can't be opened. Please re-download it from the Mac App Store", all on different systems: macOS 12, macOS 13, and macOS 15 Sequoia.
Re-downloading does not resolve the issue most of the time.
One user reported that being connected to the internet resolved it - perhaps this is an OCSP issue again?
I myself cannot reproduce this issue.
Has there been a change in code-signing recently? Have some certificates changed? Anything else I should be aware of?
What is the best course of action to have users take who experience this, when re-downloading the app from the Mac App Store does not work?
Thank you,
– Matthias
Not sure exactly what’s going on here. I’ve been building out this little app for the past couple of weeks using Xcode 16 betas, and in a couple of places I have code like this:
EditItemView(item: inItem)
.toolbar
{
ToolbarItem
{
Button(action: { self.printLabel(item: inItem) })
{
Label("Print Label", systemImage: "printer.filled.and.paper")
}
}
}
Now all of a sudden I'm getting an error on .toolbar: “Trailing closure passed to parameter of type 'Visibility' that does not accept a closure.”
Looking at the comment for toolbar, it says this method "specifies the visibility," which is a weird thing for it to do with a name like that. But it also has a deprecation tag that I don't quite understand: @available(macOS, introduced: 13.0, deprecated: 100000.0, renamed: "toolbarVisibility(_:for:)"). The name change makes sense, given the description. But what is the huge deprecation version number? Just a hack?
And why is this code no longer compiling? As I'm commenting out instances of this, all my toolbars are failing in this way.
ETA: yeah, I finally found the right declaration of .toolbar: func toolbar<Content>(@ViewBuilder content: () -> Content) -> some View where Content : View. It's no longer choosing that one. I hate Swift sometimes.
ETA2: I finally whittled it down to it not liking Label for some reason. Replacing that with Image works. But of course, the compiler won't tell me why.
ETA3: It's worse than I thought: I tried to make a small test case for a bug, and Label works just fine. Why does my code not?
I want to make a simple droplet application. I've set the document types to include com.adobe.pdf files, and I am now receiving callbacks to the app delegate's application(_:open:) callback when I drop PDFs on the app icon…
But not the first time. It doesn't matter how long I wait, or whether the app is already open—the first drop never triggers the callback. All subequent drops work as expected, and I get URLs to all the files dropped.
What might be wrong? How can I debug this?
Hi,
I have an issue with linker as well. I am building a IBM MQ driver using Erlang driver. It is building ok in Linux x64/Arm64 but doesn't build in macOS Arm64.
Can you help please.

I have tried to manually install binaries using Finder by clicking and dragging from the Desktop into "/usr/local/bin/". The binaries come with a collection of frameworks etc. All the binaries are adhoc signed. macOS asks for Admin credentials which is fine. But then, when I execute the binaries in Terminal, Gatekeeper shows the now expected "'[binary"] Not Opened Apple could not verify ........" etc. It shows that dialog for every component and requires user input 2-3 times to allow each component of which there are perhaps dozens.
BUT, none of that happens if I install those binaries using AppleScript. So, it might have a call like this:
do shell script "curl -L " & download_URL & " -o " & download_binary_zip with administrator privileges
do shell script "unzip -o " & download_binary_zip & " -d " & usr_bin_folder with administrator privileges
The resulting installs work perfectly.
Is this intended ? Using both install methods requires Admin credentials. Why does using a script work but using Finder does not ?
with my Mac air m2, after the update finished it started normally but after logging in, the Home Screen is blank (only wallpaper) no apps, no control bar, no dock nothing is showing up it’s just a blank normal screen I can move my mouse but can’t do anything with keyboard, when I lock and re-login it still stays same screen, I tried to reboot it, restart so many times but nothing helps, please if you have solution for this, I will be more than happy to know, thank you.
I like how the TabView control looks on the mac and ipad and decided to see if my current code can show the tabs in my multi-platform app just to realize that whenever I click on one of those tabs my macOS app currently crashes every time I press any other tab with the error: Thread 1: "NSToolbar 0x600003de33c0 already contains an item with the identifier com.apple.SwiftUI.navigationSplitView.toggleSidebar. Duplicate items of this type are not allowed."
While trying to troubleshoot I noticed several other people have had a similar issue with differing reasons (toolbars and searchers mentioned) all in macOS since upgrading to 15.0: https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/763829
Minimal Viable Project: to show the issue
I commented out most of my code calls hoping to create a project that worked so I could bring my code back in and see if it broke. I still had this issue so I next created a minimal viable example.
Here it is:
import SwiftUI
import SwiftData
@Model
class Issue {
var name: String
init(name: String) {
self.name = name
}
}
@main
struct TestMultiplatformApp: App {
var sharedModelContainer: ModelContainer = {
let schema = Schema([
Issue.self,
])
let modelConfiguration = ModelConfiguration(schema: schema, isStoredInMemoryOnly: false)
do {
return try ModelContainer(for: schema, configurations: [modelConfiguration])
} catch {
fatalError("Could not create ModelContainer: \(error)")
}
}()
var body: some Scene {
WindowGroup {
ContentView()
}
.modelContainer(sharedModelContainer)
}
}
struct ContentView: View {
@State var isCompact: Bool = true
var body: some View {
VStack {
if isCompact {
EntryTab()
} else {
EntrySidebar()
}
Toggle(isOn: $isCompact, label: {
Text(isCompact ? "TabView" : "Sidebar")
})
.padding(.horizontal, 20)
.padding(.bottom, 20)
}
}
}
public struct tabControl: Identifiable, Hashable, Sendable {
public static func == (lhs: tabControl, rhs: tabControl) -> Bool {
lhs.id < rhs.id
}

public init(id: Int, displayName: String) {
self.id = id
self.displayName = displayName
}
}
struct EntryTab: View {
let entryTabs = [

tabControl(id: 1, displayName: "row 1"),
tabControl(id: 2, displayName: "row 2"),
tabControl(id: 3, displayName: "row 3")
]
@State private var selectedTab: Int = 0
var body: some View {

} detail: {

}
.tabItem {

}
.tag(tabCtrl.id)
}
}
}
}

Hello everyone,
I am working on an iOS app that involves capturing images automatically, and I would like to control the start/stop of the capture process remotely from a Mac app. I explored the iPhone Mirroring feature, which allows some remote control but has the limitation of only functioning when the iPhone is locked, and it doesn’t permit access to the iPhone’s camera from the Mac.
Ideally, I am looking for a solution that would allow me to:
Remotely control the camera capture process on the iOS app from the Mac app.
Ensure the iPhone’s camera remains fully operational and controllable from the Mac during the capture process.
I have considered using options like Handoff for communication between the apps but faced some issues while communicating between the iOS and mac app. I would like to know if there is a more optimal solution within Apple’s ecosystem, or if there are APIs I might have overlooked.
Any advice or guidance on how to achieve this functionality would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
It just won't debug any macos widget, not even the default template provided.
I started a thread stating the above and apparently I am not the only one to encounter this issue. My Apple Watch is the version 10 and I certainly didn't expect to have this problem. My older Apple Watch did have this same problem initially but after a few updated it stated working. I only tried the consumer beta hoping the issue was resolved. One of the posts today hoped the next update would fix it and I informed him I had installed the beta and it still wasn't working.
All of a sudden my app started getting this CloudKit error, and it happens to a lot of users. I had no changes to cloud sync for months and really surprised by seeing this. What confuses me even more, is that there is no information on the web about this kind of error. I have no idea what causes it and how to solve it. Would love to get any feedback from the CloudKit engineer.

Seems to happen only on macOS.
I'm observing all sorts of race conditions occurring in various VNOPs my custom filesystem implements.
I'm inclined to attribute this to my implementation not following the locking rules expected by the system of a 3rd party filesystem as well as it should.
I've looked at how locking is done in Apple's own implementation of Samba and NFS clients.
The Samba client uses read/write locks to protect its node from data races.
While the NFS client uses mutex locks for the same purpose.
I realised that I don't have a clear model in my head of how locking should be done properly.
Thus my question, what are the locking rules for VFS and VNOP operations?
Thanks.
I am working on developing a Mac app that will be distributed outside of the App Store.
I have added the network extension which packaged in System Extension with packet tunnel capability.
I have created a build following these steps here: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/737894
based on your suggestions in my accepted post: https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/761251
It works fine in this case when the machine has SIP disabled and systemextensionsctl developer on.
As soon as I have made changes on the machine to systemextensionsctl developer off and SIP enabled, System Extension stopped loading.
I have copied the app to the "/Applications" directory before opening it.
When I check the loading status of the system extension with the "systemextensionsctl list" command, it shows as "[validating by category]"
Am I missing something? Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I’ve been experiencing repeated errors when trying to install my app via flutter run --release on iOS devices using Xcode 16.1 (build 16B5014f) on macOS 15.1. When running the app in debug mode, it sometimes works but takes a long time to install. However, the installation in release mode fails consistently.
This issue occurs on both my iPhone and iPad, both running iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18, respectively. The errors keep rotating between three variations:
Error 1: CoreDeviceError 3002
Error executing devicectl: ProcessException: Process exited abnormally with exit code 1:
ERROR: Failed to install the app on the device. (com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError error 3002 (0xBBA))
Connection with the remote side was unexpectedly closed :
"XPCErrorDescription" => "Connection interrupted"
Error 2: CoreDeviceError 12010
Error executing devicectl: ProcessException: Process exited abnormally with exit code 1:
ERROR: The developer disk image could not be unmounted on this device. (com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError error 12010 (0x2EEA))
Could not read from the device. (com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError error -402653180 (0xE8000004))
Error 3: CoreDeviceError 1000
Error executing devicectl: ProcessException: Process exited abnormally with exit code 1:
ERROR: The specified device was not found. (com.apple.dt.CoreDeviceError error 1000 (0x3E8))
What I've Tried So Far:
Reinstalled Xcode, cleaned the build folder, and cleared DerivedData.
Tried using both an iPhone and an iPad running iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.0.
Ensured that Developer Mode is enabled on both devices.
Disabled VPNs (Bitdefender) and firewall settings.
Manually mounted the developer disk image via Xcode.
Restarted the Mac, Xcode, and devices multiple times.
Despite these steps, the errors persist, and I’m unable to install the app on either device. I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions on how to resolve this issue.
System Information:
macOS Version: 15.1 (Build 24B5055e)
Xcode Version: 16.1 (Build 16B5014f)
Devices: iPhone 14 running iOS 18.1, iPad running iPadOS 18.0
Thank you in advance!
I've upgrade my macbook m3 pro to macOS 15, I have 2 iPhones (12 Pro and 16 Pro) - both on iOS 18 and have 3 versions of Xcode installed (15.4, 16.0, 16.1-2 beta)
For the past week I'm unable to develop on my physical device and checked all the threads in this forum for a workaround to disable the "Connect via Network".
If I'm not connected to VPN on any of my devices, I get the process attached via network after ~20 minutes, but if I try to do it while on VPN it takes forever (not even sure, can't spend 1 hour waiting to be attached or not)
What can I do to disable the "Connect via Network" and why is enabled by default and greyed out?
Hi,Regarding FileProvider, I know it has a permission authorization pop-up to control whether to open the FileProvider extension in the application settings
But when I first used it, the switch was turned off by default. I noticed that some applications can pop up an authorization pop-up to prompt the user to turn on this permission
I would like to ask what API this authorization pop-up is displayed through
I expect the authorization pop-up window to pop up as shown in the following picture
Thanks
Will updating to MacOS 15 allow me to continue development and deployment from xcode 15 or not
With Xcode 16 I cant make the Final Cut Extension Workflow work.
I am quite sure I was able to add the Workflow Extension target a couple of months ago in Xcode 15 and did successfully build it, but in Xcode 16 it wont build and it fails with this error:
clang: error: unknown argument: '-e_ProExtensionMain'
I have installed multiple times Workflow Extensions SDK 1.0.2 and even disabled Library validation like its described in the release notes but I dont think thats the problem here.
Seems like clang doesn't have the arguments for it, I guess the SDK should add these but seems like something got messed up - the template shows up fine in Xcode. I reinstalled Xcode and command line tools but that didnt help. Checking clang it really doesnt have the argument. But where does the SDK add this? Xcode seems to be using internal clang and /usr/bin/clang doesn't have it either.
Any tips what could be the problem here? I was not really able to locate the SDK to remove it before trying to install again - any ideas?
Steps to reproduce
Create new project
Add FCP workflow extension target
Build -> it fails
Same behaviour with 16.1 Beta. I am running Sonoma 14.7.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
Is there a SwiftUI version of NSControl.allowsExpansionToolTips? That is, showing a tool tip with the full text when (and only when) a text item is truncated?
Or do I need to use a hosting view to get that behavior?
