First we try to validate the receipt against the apple production environment. If it returns a 21007, then we try to validate it against the sandbox environment. If that second verification succeeds, we continue with our processing (check for a valid subscription, etc).

After reviewing our data more, it's been a rash of sandbox signups over the past week (approximately 40). When we have not been actively testing, we see anywhere from 0-2 a month and there are far more months were we see 0. Always assumed these were Apple reviewers using throw away e-mail addresses.
I figured out what the problem was.....ME :( I incorrectly thought that the announcements around this new pricing affected subscription based pricing, but that does not appear to be the case. It's been awhile since we set up (subscription) pricing so when I went to look at the pricing, I went to General/Pricing and Availability instead of Features/Subscriptions. I had been thinking all along that something was a bit off as there was only 1 price listed and there should have been 2, one for each of our SUBSCRIPTIONS.
Just wanted to chime in and say we started getting the 500 error yesterday (3/1/2023) as well. This was in an attempt to download the daily sales report for 2/28/23. Tried again today and still got a 500 error for 2/28/23. So I decided to try 3/1/2023 and it downloaded OK. I then tried another request for 2/28/23 and it downloaded successfully. Not sure if Apple fixed something in the last 30 or so minutes, or if downloaded the report from 3/1 fixed something that allowed me to download the 2/28 report.
