Do old apps need to be updated for LiDAR?

Do apps released prior to the new iPad Pro need to be updated in order to take advantage of the enhanced AR capabilites? Or are they automatically enhanced?

Users unable to download latest update

I've had numerous e-mails over the past few days from users who are unable to download my app. It loads part of the way and then freezes. Anyone know what could cause that? It seems that it is my app specifically, they say that they can download/update other apps just fine.
