How much will the Apple TV Developer Kit Cost?

Apple has never provided free hardware to developers.

Was on the phone with support, the kit will be free.

That's really surprising. Can anybody else confirm?

I am beyond shocked. Shocked isn't the word...

I think the document said the Kit only cost $1 in checkout. But developers will be selected for this early product. It is great for Apple to pay attention on TV apps.

This is a first AFAIK.

$1 gets you the whole kit and kaboodle, including the new ATV.

Registration completed; fingers crossed.

I emailed developer support to see if I can get confirmation of this.

That seems to be the case. I'd be very surprised if I were selected but I'm hoping:)

It would be awesome to have a new platform to work with and would definitely kick

my own development work into gear.

I understand that you need additional information regarding the Apple TV Developer Kit registration process and I will do my best to assist you. Juan Fidel, if you are selected, you will be able to choose your Credit Card during the checkout process and you’ll be charged $1.00 USD or in local currency." Yeah :)

How will developers get selected? Is it based on how popular the apps are or it's a lottery system? I'll be ****** if it based on how popular the developers' apps are because that'll prevent people like me who are new but want to work on the new stuff.

We'll never know the selection criteria.

However, if you've ever posted anything negative about Apple in these forums, I would not hold my breath.

I can confirm that you will only be charged the $1 for the development kit.

Is not having an app live in the store a significant drawback? I've been working on many projects that haven't come to fruition yet.

Sorry, I don't have any insight into the selection process. It certainly can't hurt to register (assuming you're eligible).

Hey, I know the site said that developers with apps on the store would be prioritised.. How does this work with development agencies (like the one I work for) who have worked with some clients who an Apple TV app would be VERY useful for.. I'd love to see us being able to work with them to create something for this new platform but I don't want us to miss out on the chance of getting a Dev Kit because we don't upload the apps to the store :(

If you are interested in development for tvOS, you should read tvOS pages in the developer site carefully.

normally they start sending devs who are sellected emails about how to get the dev kit

i so hope i will get one but with my apps i will never be selected (8 apps online, 1 waiting for review and 1 in development, for apple tv, iOS and mac)

but will everyone get an email, also if they are not selected ?

and apple, please allow us in a month or so to purchase the new apple tv at its regular price so we can all start developing our apps and test them on this amazing new device

i will be more then happy to pay the $149 for that device
