TestFlight External Testers review time taking more time than App Store Review

I uploaded a new build to iTunes Connect and added some external testers to it but it is always in Waiting For Review status. Which is not normal for something that is intended for testing.
After one day waiting, I prepared my build for App Store Review and submitted. Boom: The App Store Review was done even before the Test Flight Review.

Am I missing something? I still want to test with external testers before I push the build live.

Thanks,

By beta testing, did you mean for external testers?

I uploaded my app, and it was available immediately for internal testing.

The second stage seems to be for beta app testing, but I dont know if this is different to app store submission.

The timing seem to vary, but if it hits an weekend or holiday in Cupertino time, it seems to take longer. If you do this in US holiday time like Thanksgiving or Chrismast time, it will be even longer otherwise excpect at least a day or two.

Some human operator must be checking it out, as there are some data changes that registeres on our DB when they do it.

Completely agree. Makes no sense.. and has delayed us for 5 days on this version so far.

I've never before had external review testing take this long.

FML, even new builds under the same release train now have to go through full reviews. This is basically unusable.

TestFlight *****. We all know that for a fact. But we have to deal with it. Adding external users is a mess. Having them actually test your new build is a nightmare. Even if the build has already been approved for internal users. This makes no sense. Welcome @Apple

This is happening to me today. Most of my QA team uses TestFlight, so they have not been able to test the build that App Store Review just OKed.
