Hey,

is there a way to make an app available only to selected users without having to install profiles, extra apps,.... ?

The app should then automatically receive updates, as if it were in the App Store – only not publicly.

I recall sessions during WWDC19 and WWDC20 that addressed this feature. It was referred to then as "Ad Hoc". Here is a link to the presentation slides...
