Within the past 24 hours, the MBP failed to wake up from sleep twice. When I open the notebook, the screen was blank and would not respond to any input (keyboard, trackpad, etc.). The only way to bring it back is power cycle. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
unable to wake from sleep
I'm having the same issue with a MacMini (late 2012 model).
I'm probably going to roll back to before I installed it via time machine and try this again in a few weeks after some of the bugs has been ironed out.
After I disabled the power nap, my problem disappeared. My computer had several long sleeps, for which it would have frozen previously, and so far none happened. You might want to try disabling the power nap, and see if it helps.
I spoke too soon. I still experienced a couple of episodes even after disabling the power nap.
Now this seems more like the external monitor failing to wake up than the computer itself failing to wake up. I do see the laptop display (secondary in this setup) coming up, but the primary external display remains dark. But it did eventually come on after a few minutes.
Has anyone made any progress sorting this issue out? I'm still getting non-responsive trackpad and keyboard on wake. I suppose it may be related to the USB known issue listed in the release notes.
Beta 2 doesn't seem to have this problem. It's been one day, and I haven't had an instance of this issue. Will keep monitoring.
I have the same problem, iMac early -08 with latest beta 4. Most of the time, especially if the machine has been sleeping for a longer time (>30 min), it is impossible to wake up. Only solution is keeping the on/off button in for several seconds.
Ive tried resetting SMC / PRAM, to no avail.
Any solutions?
Hi
I have the same problem described above in relation to a 2009 Mac Pro not waking from sleep mode since installing 10.11 Beta. The USB ports would also be non-functional. This would occur in new created user accounts also. I deleted the entire /Library/Preferences folder which made no difference.
At a loss, I deleted an old kext (JMicronATA.kext) which I think was an old extension for IDE drives. Amazingly on reboot, the Mac Pro wakes from sleep!
I hope this helps!
Cheers!
This is a follow up of the wake issue. It wasn't the JMicronATA.kext extension. It was an USB external hard drive. If it was mounted and the Mac went into sleep mode, it would fail to wake. If you unmount the drives first and let it sleep, the Mac would wake as normally. Sorry for not being thorough!
I got the same problem. Especially when putting my MBP to sleep with an external display connected via Thunderbolt.
I tried resetting SMC, NVRAM and disabling disabling Power Nap to no avail. The problem still happens with Beta 5. And it happens everyday after a few hours of sleep.
And it get's worse: Mostly the MPB seems to sleep, won't wake up and is running hot.
I have the exact same problem. sleep mode shuts the computer down after some time.
Additionally, it asks twice to ID when rebooting (a long black screen between the two passwords) making the process even more painful.
I have the same device and the same issue. Also impacts the attached thunderbolt display
I also have a MBP mid 2012 with PRODUCTION El Capitan that won't wake after sleep.
Specifics are if it goes to sleep (lid closed) only if the power adapter is connected, it won't wake.
Restarted, disconnected power supply, closed top when on battery, and next morning woke without problem.
Tried again closing top with battery, then removing adapter - on battery. Won't wake.
Tried resetting (left side - shift-control-alt + power) no change.
Annoying, to say the least.
Same problem here.
Two thunderbolt displays attached to the most recent macbook pro retina 15' with El Capitan.
Monitors will return from sleep in black. I know they are connected. Seems the display is having problems.
When disconnecting and reconnecting a external drive conencted to the displays says "disk not ejected properly.
I had the same problem with my iMac. Found the only way to wake it up from a (deep) sleep was to press the power button.
Mine is MBP Mid 2012 and i'm also running into this issue. Very annoying. My current solution is setting computer sleep time to 1hr in energy saver. Not sure if it's help.
