iOS 9 Beta battery life

It might be me, but iOS 9 Battery life so far has been painfully bad, down from 100% to 85% without using it much in 2 hours... has anyone experienced anything similar?'

I might try a complete restore since i only updated from iOS 8 to iOS 9 Beta, just curious to see if anyone else is in the same boat.....after all ...battery life is one of the focus for iOS9.

Andrea

I've been dumping the communication on my iPhone with tcpdump and interestingly when on the homescreen and doing nothing it does not communicate anything but the spinning wheel besides the operator logo starts as soon as I go to the homescreen (only at certain times in the day, from time to time it stops). During that it does not connect anywhere which I first thought. Disable mobile data and Wi-Fi and it stops completely. No more background process going on without an Internet connection. So it does something in a background process when connected to the "Internet" even though it does not transmit something. And during that background process my phone runs hot. Disabling mobile data and it cools down and stops with the battery bleeding. Just something I've noticed so far.. So now I use my phone disabling mobile data and Wi-Fi and when needed I enable mobile data to check mail etc. Just to see and monitor what happens.

Hey, I'll try to iOS 9 and noticed that the battery life is short. Fully charged at 100% and I also used 2 hours and charging has fallen 80% very quickly. On the iPhone 6 Plus. Hopefully, this battery life is improved after repairs 🙂

Now I've been able to run my iPhone 6 128GB with iOS 9 beta 1 for 40 minutes straight in standby mode (just viewing some e-mails from time to time, mobile data enabled, all background stuff disabled with not even 1% loss on the battery. Battery saving mode is also disabled. Don't really know what I did.. All I did was viewing the log files through the device viewer in Xcode. Disconnected the cable after a while and ended up where I'm now.. Before viewing the logs in Xcode I rebooted the phone also. But I did not change any settings in the phone from where it was before so I don't really understand what's going on

Soon it's actually 50 minutes without any battery loss.. still at the 97% as it was when I disconnected it from my Mac. Seemingly the background activity going on before on the home screen also suddenly stopped.

I'm going to spend my weekend looking into this matter a bit deeper, just for the pure fun of it

Well, flashing the update overtop of my fresh install fixed the matching standby and usage times. I will report later today if my battery life has improved.

Same here, i went to work looked at my phone on my break after 5 hrs phone was dead 😕. was not even using it.

It is recomended to have a seccond device when running DEV firmware. "I mean again the assumption that all people here are NOT developers?" Then they are in a world of hurt. I rember on my spare iphone in ios 8 at one point it used a lot of data and I had to disable wifi. I hope non Devs will watch their data ussage or they might get a suprising bill.

Yes Yes and Yes. It is Mobile data. I got a Mesage this A.M from ATT saying ive reached 75% of the 5GB network and If I exceed it my data will be rolled back. I have unlimited data, though I havnt been streaming any music or any other data eating modes so Apple must be doing some heavy testing. I switched off celluar data so we will see if that helps soon

UPDATE! Yes disableing Mobile Data did the trick! Although the home screen in the top right says iphone instead of ATT LTE and does if I TURN ON Mobile Data too. Just Saying

Update to my installs:

iPad mini: The battery life finally went down to about 30% after using it for a day and half (last time on charger was when I installed beta and it didn't get to 100%). I streamed some audio for about 45 minutes. Charged back up to 100% and after sitting around for three hours and about 10 minutes of usage, it's still at 100%

Usage:13 min

Standby: 13 min <-- This does not match actual time off charge.

iPod Touch: I went ahead and installed the beta on my iPod Touch. Charged it to 100% and after a few hours it's still holding a full charge.

Usage: 9 minutes

Standby: 3 hrs 27 min

iPhone 5s: I use it as my main phone and for development. I'm not a big developer so I don't have test v. production iPhones, it's more of a hobby with a small income. I downgraded my iPhone back to iOS 8.3. I can update/test my apps on the iPod touch and iPad mini. I'll look at installing on my iPhone after a few more betas.

This tends to me a issue with all early betas.

I checked the console log on my iPhone 6 and CommCenter is crashing every 10 seconds. Anyone else with battery issues also seeing this?

This is some funny s*it... Yesterday I ran my iPhone 6 battery down until it died.. left it over night.. And started it up this morning and now instead of the operator it says "iPhone". Mobile data enabled, Wi-Fi enabled.. and it's been on for 2 hours 26 minutes and no percentage drop on the battery.. This beta is by far the most complex and weird one I've ever tested 😝

I'm used to battery drain in early betas.. but this behavior is just weird.. wonder what's really going on in the phone..

This makes perfect sense given the extended use of bluetooth and wifi for device communications, I'm sure this will be fixed soon enough but airplane mode as a power save is a good work around for now.

Apple asked me for my power log files so I've sent them to Apple now. So hopefully they will find a way to fix this soon enough 🙂 And was quite impressed of that they actually got back to me and asked for the log files. So they are of course most definitely taking it serious. Just glad to be able to help out 🙂

As many others have pointed out battery life issues are common with IOS beta releases. Especially early betas. For those still wanting to use it i have found setting up my devices as new ones rather than restoring from backups has helped battery drain issues. also battery cases are a very affordable work-around at least until things get nailed down. just my two cents.
