How to revert from Universal app to an iPhone only app ?

I currently have a universal app in Appstore and want to revert it to an iPhone only app for forthcoming versions.

When I change the the Target Device family in Xcode and submit to appstore it throws an error (ERROR ITMS-90101). What should I do ?

There is no answer. It's not allowed. You will need to publish a new app that's iPhone only. Updates to existing apps must support all the devices the previous version supported.
