Boot Rom Version Syntax Changed - Explanation or Documentation?

With the installation of macOS 10.14.1 Build 18B75, Security Update 2018-002 for High Sierra, or Security Update 2018-005 for Sierra I am noticing that the Boot Rom Version syntax has changed. For example, a MacBook Pro 13" 2017 went from the descriptive MBP141.0178.B00 to 184.0.0.0.0 and a Mac mini 2014 went from MM71.0232.B00 to 236.0.0.0.0.

In the old syntax it was clear to see which model was represented as a product abbreviation (MBP = MacBook Pro, MM = Mac Mini, MBA = MacBook Air, etc.) was followed by the model identifier (141 = 14,1, 61 = 6,1, etc).

With these new updates, is the first number the second set from the old syntax? For example, a MacBook Pro 13" 2017 that went from MBP141.0178.B00 to 184.0.0.0.0, should I assume that the identifier (MBP141) has been dropped and the version went from 0178 to 184?

Just looking for some clarrification on this change. Also, I've seen that devices that are eligible for the High Sierra 2018-002 update but that are not Mojave compatible are staying on the old syntax. (I will disclose that this is based on a single Mac Pro tower system - I should have access to a few more systems capped at High Sierra but testing will not be completed until next week.)

Thanks for looking. Any details on this change would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look at this article https://eclecticlight.co/2018/10/31/which-efi-firmware-should-your-mac-be-using-version-3/ While it gives no defintive answer, it has quite a few examples of this mysterious change in nomeclature.

Thanks for the reference.
