how do I archive a backup in iTunes?

I am being told I need to backup AND archive the backup in iTunes before installing iOS 9 public beta to my iPhone and I can't do it. Does anyone have any experience with this?

To archive your backup, you need to:

  1. Connect your iOS device to your Mac and launch iTunes,
  2. Open up Preferences and select Devices.
  3. You’ll see a list of all your backups; control-click/right-click on the one you want and choose Archive.

The reason it's recommended is that simply backing up your device to iCloud leaves you open to potential problems when iCloud Backup then begins backing up data from your newly-updated device.

This doesn't seem to work on a Windows 8.1 PC. Control-click (left or right click) doesn't do anything. Any suggestions?

I just got off the phone with Apple support, it seems that it automatically archives. first you need to "show hidden files" in Windows Explorer. The go to

local disk/users/(USERNAME)/appdata/roaming/apple computer/mobile sync/ backup. You should see your most recent backup there. She even had me unplug my phone from itunes and double check and it was still there

Hmm. Not seeing ANY recent backups there. The Apple support phone person I got said she couldn't help me.

thats odd, and you have unhidden all files and folders?

I found the file. It just wasn't where I expected it to be.

Can you tell me the location of the archive?

I'm having the same problem.

Thank you!

We all need a backup of our important files for different purposes. But sometimes we all face difficulty to archive the backup of iTunes. However, You can go & visit this to locate your backup files: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204215
