macOS 15.1 Beta 5: Mac App Store unable to install apps "The file “preflight.pfpkg” doesn’t exist"

Hello everyone,

Ever since installing macOS 15.1 beta 5 on this M1 13’’ MacBook Pro, I have been unable to install or update any application from the Mac App Store. I keep getting the following error: “The file “preflight.pfpkg” doesn’t exist.””. The same machine was fine with 15.0 Sequoia and the problem happens regardless of the region setting of the machine.

The machine has at least 148 GB of free disk space on the SSD. The same app I was trying to install from the MAS app I could install from the provider’s website (WhatsApp in this case, but I have tried with other apps too).

Has anyone noticed it before?

Raised the following Feedback ID if it can help: FB15296904

Kind Regards,

Goffredo

macOS 15.1 Beta 6 addressed the issue.

I had deleted the /Library/AppStore folder, installed the update, rebooted as part of the update process, and once it was all done I could update apps from the Mac App Store again. Closed the FB bug I raised after updating it.

ls -all on it I meant :D.

That worked for me. I deleted the folder AppStore in /Library and recreated it, and I was able to update all my apps now.

Thank you! It works.

Apologies everyone if this comes as a double post, I could not find the other ones / not sure the other replies we submitted.

@Aleks123 @Ebendigo , I have tried the suggestion [@Vatsal Manot](https://developer.apple.com/forums/profile/Vatsal Manot) suggested but it would not fix the problem for me.

Could you please add details to the steps you took to fix the problem? What are the actual permissions of the folder and who is the owner and group for it?

I have solved this for me. Go to Library, then locate folder AppStore. Delete the folder AppStore, then create a new folder called AppStore. By doing this it then let me download the app updates that had been blocked with the 'the preflight.pfpkg doesn't exist' message.
