macOS 15.1 Beta 5: Mac App Store unable to install apps "The file “preflight.pfpkg” doesn’t exist"

Hello everyone,

Ever since installing macOS 15.1 beta 5 on this M1 13’’ MacBook Pro, I have been unable to install or update any application from the Mac App Store. I keep getting the following error: “The file “preflight.pfpkg” doesn’t exist.””. The same machine was fine with 15.0 Sequoia and the problem happens regardless of the region setting of the machine.

The machine has at least 148 GB of free disk space on the SSD. The same app I was trying to install from the MAS app I could install from the provider’s website (WhatsApp in this case, but I have tried with other apps too).

Has anyone noticed it before?

Kind Regards,

macOS 15.1 Beta 6 addressed the issue.

I had deleted the /Library/AppStore folder, installed the update, rebooted as part of the update process, and once it was all done I could update apps from the Mac App Store again. Closed the FB bug I raised after updating it.

I have the same issue. I cannot download or update anything from the App Store.

I'm getting the same message when I try to update apps via the app store.

Same here for sure.

Hello,

I've been encountering the same problem. While I can update previously downloaded apps using CleanMyMac X, I'm unable to download new ones. I've reinstalled version 15.1 three times but still can't fix the issue. I'm hopeful this will be addressed in the next beta release.

FB15279714 and FB15279748 are my reports: one for the updates and one for the downloads

Great to see we're approaching a week and Apple is right on top of this.

Same, I was really hoping for an update this week to fix this rather serious bug but it seems NOPE. I suppose Apple probably feels we shouldn't be running a beta version on our primary devices so too bad so sad.

Would be nice if you could roll back to last known good like on Windows. While there's a lot that I like about the Mac, there's some things that are way behind.

Navigating to /Library and creating a folder called AppStore fixed the issue for me.

App Store incorrectly complained about not having enough disk space, but the real issue was that the folder being inspected, /Library/AppStore, didn't even exist.

Any particular permissions?
