I'm new to Apple Development but am hoping to create a VisionOS app for people with certain eye pathologies. My app would need the user's eye position to function. Is eye tracking something that users can give permission for the app to log? I saw in the documentation that hand position permission could be granted by the user but I didn't see anything about eye position. Thanks!
Eye tracking in VisionOS
At one point I thought you could get permission for eye-tracking, but I must have misheard. That's the ultimate no, I think. Eye-tracking opens up all sorts of ultra-sophisticated psychological analysis for manipulation and marketing
Hi Luke! Eye position / gaze information is not available to visionOS apps. Please do file a Feedback Assistant request describing your use-case, including the kinds of problems you are looking to solve that would traditionally require access to eye position.
There will be a lot of use cases for eye tracking application: the most important one is using eye gaze and gesture to control visionOS apps, allow users to point their eyes to physical world without using hands (or using hands for confirmation). there could be interesting games developed that are based on eye tracking. If apple want the developers to develop apps for visionOS, they need do more in terms of enabling the developers and opening more APIs.
