Contacts inaccessible on iOS 16.1 for Widget Extensions

In iOS 15 and 16, once an app gave permission to access Contacts, Widgets (and Lock Screen Widgets in iOS 16) could access Contacts. 16.1 beta 1 and 2 apparently no longer allow this (and there appears to be no work around, as Widgets can't ask you for permission separately from the parent app). My app (Curmmunicate) in the App Store will fail if this doesn't get a fix as it relies on this feature.

Have filed a report: FB11563817 (Contacts not accessible from Widgets in iOS 16.1 betas). Report includes an Xcode sample project showing the issue.

This seems to be fixed in iOS 16.1 beta 4. Crisis averted!

@freyherme, I was just about to message you and ask if you had a fix for Calendar in the beta. Seems you do, so great news!

My bug report is still open, and never received any updates from Apple. That's frustrating. But at least they fixed it.

This remains unfixed in 16.1 beta 3. The report FB11563817 remains without resolution or comment from Apple. Does anyone know how a developer gets some sort of feedback?

I'm having the same issue. The issue affects not only contacts but also calendar access for widget extensions. Like you said, it looks like Beta 3 did not resolve this issue.

Hi @freyherme,

Did you file a bug report on your issue? Would be good to get as many reports in as we can, so Apple fix the issues. So far they have not responded at all to my report. I even tried using one of my two tech support queries I get per year to ask for a work around, and was told there is no work around and the issue is still under investigation. It's scary not getting any feedback, and basically just hoping Apple fix the issue before they release — if not, my customers are going to want their money back and I don't control that side of things either as it is all through Apple.
