Siri does not work on ios 16

i tried to call my girlfriend using siri and well theres a bug with that she keeps trying to do it but she always fail with every command i gave her, also while using airpods siri doesnt appear at all. im currently on iphone 13 pro

I have the same problem going on now on ios 16.0.2 voice memo, calls works perfect but siri n direction cant seem to understand me n always shows a tiny icone with not microphone, siri keeps saying one sec n then sorry cant understand you

** UPDATE** I Followed the advice of someone who posted above, switch your Siri from English US to English UK, and then do the same thing with the keyboard and then switch them back and it should have it fixed!!**

I have the same issue. I have an iPhone 13pro max and just upgraded to iOS16.0.2 less than a week ago. I went through everything possible and apple told me I need to factory reset my phone… this bug is something that needs addressed by something more than a factory reset.

I noticed that I had to ask the question immediately after "Hi SIri", otherwise it considers I'm asking for my position.

"Hi Siri, what is the weather today ?" works perfectly.

"Hi Siri" alone is understood as "Hi Siri, where am I ?"

I’m currently on iOS 16.0.2 and I’m still having this issue. Plus my Picture-in-Picture has stopped working.

Same issue here. Siri just keeps saying one sec and theres a problem and then gives up.

I'm running iOS 16.0.2 on an iPhone 11.

As suggested above (in reverse) if I switch Siri Language from English (UK) to English (US) it works ok. Switching back to English (UK) it stops working again. Very frustrating as it won't work on CarPlay.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

What Daileyjm3 posted is the solution that worked for me:

Same thing happening here with me. Always get the “one sec”……..”still working on it”……..”sorry somethjng went wrong.” On my 13 pro.

Siri is already behind, now it’s not working? Frustrating.

My issue was when I held down power button Siri would come on and off immediately and not respond. Hey Siri was not working at all. Voice to text was not responding. I switched to UK language and both Siri and voice to text are working. It seems to be an issue with US English? How is this bugged? Doesn’t make any sense. I’m on 16.0.2 iPhone 12 Pro

Same exact issue as so many are describing above on iOS 16.0.2 w/ iPhone 12 Max Pro. Changing Language & Siri settings to English (UK) will allow it to work again, but changing back to English (U.S.) rendered Siri useless again for me. Amazed this has not been resolved with a software update yet.

Driving me nuts. Siri & Voice-to-Text Dictation not working for iOS search, Note App, Messages App, and all other apps that use the microphone button to record dictation. Microphone hardware works fine for recording videos and facetime, so not the hardware. I uninstalled and reinstalled keyboard languages (English US, UK, German), toggle Siri on/off, reboored, reset the network, reset all... did all the recommended methods, but nothing worked to fix this on my iphone XR. Went to the Apple Store in Boston -- they said it could be the VPN, so I uninstalled all VPN settings -- still did not work. Siri & Dictation work fine on my ipad pro still, so has to be the iOS 16.0.x updates that screwed it up. Cannot do anything except wait for an iOS update to hopefully fix this. Bummer about doing the complete phone reset is that I've lost all the WiFi passwords for all the places previously registered in my phone.

Since iOS 16 was installed, Siri doesn’t work, Dictation doesn’t work, Voicemail transcription doesn’t work. GREAT UPDATE

I spoke to a support agent and was told that this is a bug that their engineers are researching. They said to look for an update on my ticket or wait for an IOS update.

Siri was not working and my talk to text was not working. The work around I found seems to work every time. Change your keyboard settings from English United States to English United Kingdom. If you are already on English United Kingdom change it to any other language, then back to English United Kingdom and everything will work.

Not even on a beta profile. iOS 16.0.3 had the exact same bug for me. I could type to Siri, use my Watch, etc. But talking to Siri (as well as dictation generally) just never worked. Switched Siri's language to English (UK) and the problem is fixed!!! I even got to choose the same American voice I had been using, so no worries on my end. Just hoping whatever's wrong is fixed with a future release.

I’m thankful I found this post. When this bug originally happened to me, I was running iOS 16 public beta three, and I thought it was just a beta bug. When it stuck around after iOS 16 was officially released I thought it must be a leftover bug from the beta. I did a clean restore with iOS 16, and that fixed Siri and dictation. At some point it stopped working again and I didn’t know what to do. After finding this thread, I changed Siri‘s language in my keyboard to English UK, and everything was working! I did find it inconvenient that American spellings of words were coming up as spelled wrong, and I found that dictation was not as good for whatever reason. I had UK set for a few days when I saw a comment on this thread about disabling VPNs. I use a VPN as an ad blocker, and I wondered if that was causing any issues. I disable the VPN and switched back to English US and everything was working again! I enabled the VPN and everything was still working. That was two or three days ago, and everything has been working as it should. I dictated this entire post (16.0.2).

I’m not a developer, but if I had to guess, I’d say it wasn’t the VPN and had more to do with me being on UK for long enough for English US to maybe be deleted and re-download?

I’d also be interested if others in this thread either we’re on the public beta or use a VPN.
