In IOS 15 We have facing some dropdown issue

We have followed the below steps on iPad Air 2 having version 15.1:

  1. We have add a home screen shortcut using safari browser.
  2. We have clear the history and website data for safari browser
  3. We have clicked the shortcut which we have created from safari browser
  4. Now the dropdown is working fine but if we press home button and get back to the shortcut instance then dropdown is not showing
  5. Some times dropdown list is showing blur on background.
  6. If we clear the app in recent and pick the shortcut again without clearing the cache of safari browser then the dropdown working fine

We have attached the screen shot for the issue. This was happening only in IOS 15 alone lower versions this issue is not occurring

Can some one please look on it and provide me a solution to arrest the dropdown listing is not showing for the first time

After press the home screen and again come back with the shortcut the dropdown is not working(Note: dropdown is shown blur some times)

Dear Team,

Is there a fix for this issue? I'm also running into a similar problem where users cannot access their dropdown menus. The dropdown menus appear blurry and in the background even when a user navigates away from that particular page.

I have also been experiencing drop down issues when using my site in standalone mode (added to homescreen). I am running iOS 15.3.1.

Most of the time, the drop downs work, but occasionally, when you click on a drop down, nothing appears to happen. But if you click on where it would be, then it actually updates the selection.

Sometimes, you can see the drop down, but it is very faint, and smaller than normal.

The faint drop downs can also follow you across the site. You can see a faint bar. It is very strange.

The only way to fix it, is to kill it, and re-open it. Then everything works fine again.

My site is not using any JS frameworks. Just pure HTML with the occasional jQuery plugin like "chosen".

I am now getting emails from members of my site. They ask me why they can't update certain drop downs.

This is becoming a huge issue.

This is also happening to our app in homescreen. I reproduced this with using standalone page with select element. I submitted a feedback to apple. Hopefully we get some response. For reference, see below the details I submitted to apple:

The problem is around the select element not showing the options when clicking on it. On first launch of the home screen app, the select element is still working. But after minimising and reopening it, the select element seems to become unresponsive and does not show the options.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create a standalone page with select element.
  2. Clear the browser cache of Safari thru the settings.
  3. Using Safari, visit the page and add to Home Screen.
  4. Launch the Home Screen app. Observe that the select element is clickable and options are showing.
  5. Minimise the Home Screen app. Then re-open it. Observe that the select element does not seem to respond, and the options are not showing.

We have also been experiencing this issue. It has caused us a lot of problems with our internal sites. We have tried changing multiple things in the code but still have not figured out how to work around this yet. The dropdown still works correctly on a few devices that we had delayed updating, but those will be updated soon. I am hoping someone finds a solution soon.

Updating our bootstrap file and updating to ios 15.4 seems to have fixed the problem for us.

I've did an indepth investigation on this select dropdown problem and posted an issue at bugs.webkit.org: https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238318

It's a problem with dropdowns of several components (such as select, input file/date/month) where either the animation to have the dropdown appear or disappear gets stuck. You can sometimes see the dropdown being tiny and very transparent (if you zoom into a screenshot) and sometimes you'll be able to select an option even though you don't see the dropdown.

I have reached out to Apple and currently have an active case on this issue with their engineering team. Apple has acknowledged the problem and its development team is working on this. Not confirmed officially but a probability that a fix may be introduced on iOS 16.1 or earlier versions of 16.x. So being recommended that Beta testing on iOS 16 is frequently carried out.

I can confirm that this issue is still present on iOS 16.0. for both select and date fields.

This issue has now been fixed by Apple on iPad OS 16.2 Beta 1. The public release for iPad OS 16.2 is aimed to be in the next 4-5 weeks. It is also recommended to continue testing future beta releases for any potential other bugs.
