Monterey Beta 4 install remaining 15 minutes = one hour

The tittle says it all. Upgrading Monterey to beta 4 through System Preferences, the download was smooth, but when the message changed to "Preparing macOS Monterey 12 beta 4..." appeared, it stuck at "about 15 minutes remaining". After one hour, changed to "about 10 minutes remaining".

So, don't trust that message. Just wait.

I have the same issue with beta 3. I was never able to get past it so I waited for Beta 4. Beta 3 stuck at 15 minutes, beta 4 sticks at 10 minutes. It has been on 10 minutes since yesterday afternoon. I would like to remove the update file that is downloaded and then do the update again but I do not know where it is on my Mac.

Firecop1 The first time it hang at 15 minutes, I just restarted. After that, the update process began again from downloading the Beta again. So I guess you just need to restart

Thank you Neto. Unfortunately, the reboot did not work. I tried multiple times.

Just to make clear what I did:

First try: System Preferences -> Software Update

The Beta was downloaded, install began, hang at 15 min remaining message for more than one hour.

I gave up waiting and force rebooted.

Second try: After reboot, same procedure.

System Preferences -> Software Update

Curiously, software update downloaded Beta from the beginning again, what makes me think there wasn't a previously downloaded file from the first try to be deleted.

This time, the macbook apparently hang at 15 min remaining, but after like 30 min it changed the message to 10 min. After another 30 min, changed to 5 min and so on, until installation process complete.

Hope it helps

Try it in safe mode. Worked for me.

I faced the same issue, and got this help from @Keldrik.

Worked for me.

Update was not progressing anymore with “25 minutes remaining”. Waited more than an hour. Then I restarted and tried again. And then the same again. Did not help, always stuck at the same position.

What helped and made it possible for me to successfully install the update was force quitting the “Updatebrainservice” using the activity monitor. I waited a few minutes after starting the update until there was almost no drive reads and writes anymore with "25 minutes remaining". The “Updatebrainservice” still had a high CPU usage. Waited a bit longer and then force quit the process. Shortly afterwards the update process continued. The “MobileSoftwareUpdate.UpdateBrainService” was doing all the work now. It still took a long time but with a visible progress. Posted 1 day ago by Keldrik
