AirPlay Issues Since Switching to Big Sur on MacBook Pro

I am experiencing the same issue on a 2015 MacBook Air - I haven't tried with my MacBook Pro yet. Updating my Apple TV now from 14.0.2. I will post if this fixes the issue, but I believe its Big Sur causing the problem. I too do not have Airplay in my Toolbar.

Hope they fix this soon, as I use airplay often.

I don't know that updating the Apple TV helped. After the update however I tried this again from the video browser window (On Video Airplay Icon) where it showed two selections with Checkboxes. Clicking on the Apple TV selection didn't do anything, but clicking the Apple TV's checkbox did.

Its working now for me. Now I need to see if I can mirror my screen to the Apple TV.

add Me to having this issue since upgrading to Big Sur 11.0.1. I cannot mirror my 2019 MBP to my LG UN71 smartTV. This worked before upgrading. My iPhone can still mirror OK. I use this everyday to run zwift. This is really obnoxious. Running beta to Big Sur I lost functionality of being able to be Pair my heart rate monitor, smart trainer, and cadence sensors simultaneously to my MBP and Garmin head unit. I have to choose which I would like to record all of my workout info. Since I’m using Zwift, I have to set it all to go to my MBP.

ive been really frustrated ever since upgrading to Big Sur and I am really wishing I hadn’t installed it all now.

[LG] webOS TV OLED65CXPUA is not appearing as an airplay option on Late 2020 MacBook Pro on Big Sur. It is appearing on another device running Catalina.

Have the same problem, and have updated AppleTV Software too.

• Update* On the LG TV, the airplay settings are not in the "settings" menu but in the "Home" app on the LG TV. Once I found this, after a TV firmware update my Airplay had been switched off. After re-enabling airplay on my TV, AirPlay now works. Best of Luck!

Please add me to this list with the same issue as soon as I updated to Big Sur 11.0.1. Not connecting with Samsung Q series or any other device.

It took me a bit to find it but they hid it a few layers deep.

On the Mac the top left of the menu bar next to the Magnifier glass/Search button there are two bars one looks like it is "slid to on" and the other looks "slid to off." Click on that and it will drop down a box with multiple options like wifi bluetooth etc.

On the right hand side of this box is a button called Screen Mirroring. Click on that and when you do it will bring up the old Airplay looking box. The LG TV should appear in there if the TV set up is correctly (or any airplay capable device). Make sure to choose the correct mirror monitor or use as separate display.

Hope this helps, hate that they changed the name and functionality so drastically. But I guess that is "progress."

Having the same issue with Airplay and Samsung Frame television - worked perfectly until upgrading to Big Sur. Following thread for updates.

I am having a similar issue as i cannot see the icon in my tool bar, it will mirror my display but not stream to my apple tv. It keeps turning my display mirroring off once i am done. Not sure what happen with apple but this needs to be resolved..

I had the same issue but it got resolved as soon I disabled "Block all Incoming Connections" in the firewall settings. If you have enabled this before, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall Options. Uncheck "Block all Incoming Connections".

It's sad that I posted this one month ago and there still aren't any solutions. I'm hoping the Apple developers can come up with some sort of solution since tech support was not able to resolve the issue. At the very least, it's helpful to know I'm not the only one having the issue. I also reset my Apple TV to it's factory settings, which did not resolve the issue. I will make sure to post an update if anything comes up.

Its certainly a firewall issue, like the earlier comment.

I also had this but then remembered I used to have a VPN enabled via Norton360 before the upgrade to BigSur.
I un-installed Norton and bingo - worked immediately.


I had issues with my iPAD on upgrading to iOS14 with Norton VPN as well, until I switched that off.

My mirror problem is solved by DanTMan63 below. There is nothing I needed to do to my firewall.

Mirroring works as before, they just hid/changed the user interface.

I've experienced the same problem with my iMac. Yesterday, I called Support because of this problem and spent 2 1/2 hours talking with the Senior level support person, who was very surprised to hear about the problem and indicated she had never heard about it. At the end of our conversation I stated..... Has the new operating system removed AirPlay? There was no response from the technician, she moved to a different subject.
Today, continuing my effort to discover just what the problem was, I discovered the RING App had the airplay icon and it's functioning. But so far, Chrome and Safari are not supporting Airplay. Which has me wondering, is it an application or an operating system problem?

The other thing I looked into, which I read online, was going into system preferences, then Displays. At the bottom of the screen there's an airplay display drop-down, click on the drop-down, select the Apple TV that you want to communicate with. It took about 20 to 30 seconds for the computer to react to that selection. My terminals then went dark and then came back on. Started streaming a movie but there was no icon presented in Chrome nor in Safari. After a short period of time, the airplay display option change back to off.
Tomorrow, I'll reestablish a conversation with the senior support person to discuss the RING App.
