Problem restoring the DTK to its original state (flashing orange SOS)

A few days ago, I wanted to restore the DTK to its original state, and I probably had a stupid idea to select the Erase Mac option in Recovery mode. Instead of deleting the users data and the device re-installing the system, the device only restarted and LED on the DTK started flashing orange SOS.

So I installed the current Apple Configurator 2.13.1 from the App Store and tried to restore the device from the UniversalMac11.020A5384cRestore.ipsw file (macOS Big Sur 11 beta 9).

The process ended in error:
The System cannot be restored
on this device.

I can't complete the operation

(AMRestoreErrorDomain error 10 - Failed to handle message type StatusMsg)"

[AMRestoreErrorDomain - 0xA (10)]_

I tried again according to the instructions here:
https://download.developer.apple.com/Documentation/Universal_App_Quick_Start_Program_Resources/Restoring_Developer_Transition_Kit.pdf

I used: MacOS 10.15.7, Apple Configurator 2.13.1
(from the App Store - I don't know where to get the described version 2.13 beta at the moment), Xcode 12 beta 1 (I also tried Xcode 12.2 beta 2) and the result is always the same.

The progress bar with the description “Restoring System on device Step 2 of 2: Installing System” will finish. The progress bar appears on the device monitor, and then the error described above appears in the Apple Configurator.

The process can also be seen in the video here: youtu.be/fzZbJBAgegk

Can someone please advise me if it is necessary to have a beta version of Apple Configurator and where to download it, or another version of macOS, etc.

Having the same issue, beta configurator is nowhere to be found and thus I cannot restore my DTK in order to update from beta 1 to beta 9.
Me too. Having the same error msg
Having the same issue. I have another developer on my team who did have "Apple Configurator Version 2.13 (5A30)" but that resulted in the same issue, so although that was "beta 5" it had worked for him previously (he did a restore).

So I am at a loss as well on how to proceed from here. If anybody has cracked this, please speak up!

EDIT : was able to install by using a previous of the IPSW : UniversalMac11.020A5374i_Restore.ipsw

Having the same issue.
I had the same problem forever. Apple's own instructions are very outdated.

"MacOS 10.15.7"

This was my problem. I had Mac Mini updated to Catalina, and it would throw similar errors to what you show. The solution was to install Big Sur Beta. I used the public beta build rather than the certificate/developer method as it was more direct. I installed to a new clean partition. Then downloaded and installed the beta of Xcode from Developer portal, and Configurator from the app store.

The IPSW for DTK was obtained from https://developer.apple.com/download/universal/ and then after booting into DFU on the DTK (unplug, hold power, plug back in, connect via USB-C to port next to HDMI) I dragged the Big Sur image over and hit "Restore."

It looked like it had froze up at the same spot as yours, but after 10-20 minutes came through. Note that the first time you plug it in Configurator will detect it as an unknown device and ask you to download updates for it, but there are none so this will fail. After completing the restore it detects as a Mac Mini and will again prompt to download updates, but fail again. However by that point the DTK should be back in factory restored mode and can be setup directly.

Good luck, as I hadn't been able to apply a single update to mine in 3 months and the support and documentation seems painfully inadequate.
I have the same problem , compounded by the fact that my MacbookPro bricked when I tried to update it it Big Sur as suggested.

Anyone got a lead on the old ispw "UniversalMac11.020A5374i_Restore.ipsw" ?
Yeah, the DTK bricked on 11.0.1B. Ready box it up and send it back. nah, I will try to restore it.
