App Name vs Display Name

I understand that every application requires a unique name. I am wondering if the name under the icon (I think that is the display name) can be a duplicate?
Duplicate of what?

iOS HIGs says this about the icon:

"Use words only when they’re essential or part of a logo. An app’s name appears below its icon on the Home screen. Don’t include nonessential words that repeat the name or tell people what to do with your app, like "Watch" or "Play." If your design includes any text, emphasize words that relate to the actual content your app offers."

I wonder whether you've found an answer for this. As indeed an App title could not be a duplicate, there is nothing to find whether a display name has to be unique or can be duplicates (for other who doesn't know what duplicates meant: name already taken by other devs)

The app name must be unique, but the display name (the text under the icon) has no such constraint. We can both make apps for keeping track of twinkies, which we would have to uniquely name in the app store (******* Tracker 1000 and ******* Tracker Pro), but we could both use ******* Tracker as the display name of our respective apps.

I have no idea why the word was filtered out. In short, app names must be unique, but display names do not need to be unique.
