iOS 14 Ships Tomorrow 09/16/2020 - But App Clips Dev is Broken?

So Apple just announced that iOS 14 ships tomorrow 9/16/2020.

However, there are many threads on here showing how App Clip development is broken and there is no way to test the end to end experience.

App Clip Development and Testing seems to have been broken since iOS 14 Beta 5

What is going?
Check out this youtube video i made about this experience.

So as of right now is there a way to show the end to end app clip experience to folks using smart banner and iMessage? I have the QR code working but I can not get the other two to work. thanks.
mg1928,

There shouldn't be a reason you can't test on Safari Smart App Banner and iMessages, if you got it to work on QR code.
I have this reference for AppFlyer's Device Id app. It is published to the store, so maybe this is the reason it works easily.

http:// sdktest.appsflyer.com/clip-test

Check out the metadata header in the html. This is the only secret sauce.
As for iMessages - once you see the banner in Safari, just share the page in a message, and you'll see it.

Good luck
liazkam,

thank you much for quick response and info. I have been following your documentation/tutorials which have been a huge help. I didnt see your url with banner enabled html page so that also helps alot.

I didnt publish my test app and just trying to test via testflight. my page with the banner meta tag is
https:// op-ccmk.att.com/app-clip2.html and I (and other eyes I have asked) cant see anything wrong with it.

since my app isnt published I used this url to find the app id
https:// appstoreconnect.apple.com/apps/1528242909/testflight/ios/19d81f48-xxxxx

but maybe that is why the app needs to be published? this is strictly a demo so I wasnt planning on publishing the app nor did I even think apple would approve it since there is no functionality really in the app.

again thanks everyone - great information here

Hi mg,

I did some tests, and I recommend you do the following:
  1. Create a Local Experience with URL of your website, and scan a QR code that encodes this URL. It will show you if the experience and app clips are legal.

  2. In TestFlight, run the app clip on your device, then go to the page in Safari without removing the App Clips from your device
