Missing Spotlight metadata for .emlx files with macOS Big Sur

Emails with .emlx file format are not indexed as expected by Spotlight.
  • Author, Recipients and their email addresses are not indexed.

  • The kMDItemDisplayName is the file name instead of the subject

  • The kMDItemTextContent contains the raw text of the email instead of a parsed body.

Does someone know, wether this is a bug or is it worth to implement a workaround for this issue to prepare our app for BigSur?

Does someone know about a plan to access Core Spotlight for Emails within a third party app?

Did you get a resolution to this issue? It is still present in 11.0.1.

Re 3rd party apps you might look at HoudahSpot (I am a user).
Hi Apple

has this been fixed? I am also a user of Houda and missing the indexing of email address, recipients of ELMX files is a regression from Catalina.
Mail.app search function may be OK for consumers and casual searches, but for professionals looking at thousands of emails we need more granular and easy filtering. Houdah and other softwares are good complements to MAC OS to enable user with these granular searches but it needs spotlight email indexing. the last resource solution is to use Microsoft outlook which would be a pity..but I am optimist it will get fix :)

Same question here. There is also no "Preview" available for .emlx-Files
