iOS/tvOS 14 Airplay - No audio

Using an iPhone 11 Pro Max on iOS 14 Public Beta 2 and an Apple TV 4k on tvOS 14, audio does not seem to be working when streaming a video from my phone to the Apple TV via Airplay.

Audio is working on the Apple TV when playing something on the device itself.

The video is not muted on my iPhone and plays audio fine if I switch back to my phone.

Sending a video from my iMac to the Apple TV via Airplay works fine (including audio).

I have restarted my phone and the Apple TV, and the problem persists. There just isn't no audio at all when streaming videos from the phone to the Apple TV. Music from the Apple Music app plays just fine with great audio.

Any ideas?
Same critical problem:

In previous tvOS version I was able to access my Airport Express (2nd Generation), on which the audio output is connected to my audio system, through:
Settings > Video and Audio > Default Audio Output

With tvOS 14.2, my Airport Express (2nd Generation) is not detected anymore….

so the sound can just be directed through HDMI output :(
Same issue, HomePod is not detected, no Audio setting available.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Apple please fix this now!
This is so annoying.

iOS 14.2 has completely broken Airplay with my Sonos speakers. No longer finds any of them.
APPLE TV, seriously?
the auto update makes watching movies not possible.
i have a projector and a sonos amp.
now i need a wire across the living room floor?

please fix?

a software upgrade that breaks a previous feature?
seriously.
you can do better.

On the AppleTV remote, press and hold the upper right Home button. Airplay and other options will appear.
Here is what is happening with me:

TVOS 14.2, Sonos Move no longer appearing in the list of available Airplay2 devices.

Incidentally iOS 14.2 also bricked my daughter’s iPhone 7 and between the two of these major issues I am likely selling my stock in Apple and getting rid of all my Apple devices.
  • UPDATE - it works and here is how (saw this answer buried in between all of us being upset

hold the button on the top right of your apple remote. You will see a menu pop up and at the bottom is where you can select what device you want to send audio to over airplay. Feel relief that it works. Still to upset at the disregard for all the collateral damage caused to me and everyone else that could have been so easily solved with any number of communication methods. Maybe a pop up on the Apple TV. Or maybe an email communication, since we know apple isn't shy about those. Really bad customer experience guys. You k is what that is right? Customer experience, not a bunch of zombies no matter what you might chuckle about. Poor form if it were done by some new app on the App Store. Incredibly arrogant when done by one of the most profitable companies in the world that still cares most about locking people into them.

*original post/rage***
$6,000 Hegel receiver airplay certified no longer shows up in Apple TV. iPhone sees it fine. Happened to upgrade WiFi router around the same time as update. 2 routers, 8 - 12 hours, and a fight with my wife later, and you have got to be kidding me. The audacity. The reason I always hated apple, the company that tells everyone else to think different. Try looking in the mirror. Bill gates could be behind COVID and I'd still like you less.
My Airport Express is no longer detected by Apple TV 4K but my Imac can.

Please help fix. Thanks

UPDATE: If you look in the settings default audio it is not there anymore.

Need to press and hold top right button on apple tv remote. :-)
Yeah, there’s a workaround, but it’s not a solution. This is not an iPhone or iPad that sometimes you would like to use the external speaker, this is a multimedia device that should have constant audio output, and some of us shoes to use an external AirPlay speaker! Now we can’t! You have to send the audio every time you turn on your AppleTV or even after some minutes of inactivity! There should be a way to set this forever, like it used to be a week ago!
So I am still unable to play directly from my phone or Apple TV. When I select the device it connects, but no sound comes through. It then eventually disconnects.
Hi there,

ive been having this issue since I’ve updated from beta version of iOS 14 to the public standard update iOS 14.2 the latest. My phone has the option to airplay music to my Apple tv3rd gen but it will say it’s connected but nothing appears on the tv and the music plays on the iPhone speakers. So then when I go to screen mirror it works? I prefer not to screen share because it eats up my battery quickly I believe.

anyone have any solutions or any guess why this happened after iOS 14 updates?

thanks
Hi, ever since upgrading my iPhone to an IPhone 11 with iOS 14 I’ve regretted it. This is because I’ve got 3 Airplay 2 enabled Sonos speakers, a HomePod, an Airplay 2 enabled Denon amp and an LG oled Tv also Airplay 2 enabled - Airplay 2 is pretty much the main reason I stick with an iPhone.
Prior to upgrading my phone everything worked fine, I could stream to one speaker, 2 speakers, all speakers in whatever combination I wanted, ever since upgrading I can only stream to one speaker at a time and this often fails. Reading some of the other comments here seems I’m not alone, disappointed Apple seem to have released such a broken iOS without testing - when will we be getting a fix for Airplay 2?
According to some people here, it is not broken, it is what it is now. They changed it and it’s never going back.

We can only leave negative feedback on Apple site.
Dear all,

although I read suggestions that this issue is fixed (holding te tv buttons for long time and choose a device), it really isn't. With my new short through beamer, apple tv and Sonos boxes it becomes impossible to have a synchronized audio video combination as far as I have tried.

I do not see a way to use the audio calibration feature that used to work when you could select the audio devices in the setup screen.

Yes you can select the Sonos room, and sometimes it works to stream audio. Although not the cursor movement (which already should make you suspicious) and not in the audio calibration menu.
And when it please audio, there is major delay. Whick is to be expected, but I cannot correct the delay by default...

A thought creeps in my mind that apple only wants to support their new Homepods... I hope not. This may only be a small mistake and the original approach is corrected... right?
