Impossible to upload screenshot for Mac app auto-renewing subscription in-app-purchase item in iTunes Connect

This feels like an iTunes Connect bug, but maybe I'm doing something wrong. I'm trying to create auto-renewing subscription in app purchase items for my Mac app to start testing the subscription sign up flow in my app.

I've created an app in iTunes Connect. In the Features tab I've created various in-app-purchase items with different prices and duration in a single subscription group. So far so good.

I filled out all the required information, but all of my items are stuck in the "Missing Metadata" state, so I don't appear to be able to test them yet. The only thing I haven't filled entered is a screenshot and review description (why those would be needed for testing since they are review related, I'll never know).

However, when I try to upload a screenshot, it appears to be impossible. The help text says "We’ll only use the screenshot for our review—it will not be displayed on the App store. Screenshots must have valid dimensions for your app platforms." However, it unhelpfully doesn't specify the resolution I need. If I try to upload any image, I get an invalid size error and it tells me it must be 640x920 (seems suspiciously like an iOS resolution, not an OS X resolution...).

When I try to upload a screenshot from my app with a 640x920, it works, but when I hit save I get the following error:

"You must upload a valid screenshot."

There is no indication of what constitues a valid screenshot or what was wrong with the screenshot I used.

Two questions for anyone that may know the answer:

1. Is a screenshot necessary for testing or am I in the metadata missing state for some other reason?

2. Is this a bug in iTunes Connect?

Right now this is completely stopping me from doing any subscription testing, so it's very frustrating.

Wow that worked, thanks!!

I took a full screen screenshot rather than cropping to my app, and amazingly it worked. What exceptionally terrible error handling lol.

This is Crap!

Tried all different kins of sizes all fail!!!

I ran into this problem as well. 1334 × 750 screenshot worked for me.

I solved it by inserting the image with google chrome
I ran into this problem as well. 1334 × 750 screenshot worked for me. All other suggestions did not. It's truly unbelievable Apple did not improve their guidelines and/or error messages during the last 4 years if not more!!!
I had this problem as well. Chrome and Firefox both gave me this error, but it uploaded without a hitch in Safari.
Another note on this ridiculous issue... even if your app is displayed in portrait mode, the app review image has to be landscape. So, I had to rotate my screenshot 90 degrees for the portal to accept it. 1920x1080 instead of 1080x1920.

[edit] Ok, nevermind that. It appeared to take my 1920x1080 image (it showed in the preview box), but when clicking Save, the top of the form said I need to upload a valid preview image, so it didn't actually accept it.

[edit 2] Inexplicably, uploading at 1242x2208 was accepted.
Same problem here. Solved. 2208x1242 in landscape worked. Apple needs to update the dimensions from 920x640. Someday...

Same problem here. After several failed attempts with all sorts of resolutions, the system now returns a "wrong format error".

I got it to work. Here's the hack:

  1. Use the resolution of the cheapest iPhone from the most recent lineup - i.e on 2021 it was iPhone SE with a resolution of 750x1334 (width, height).

  2. Make sure to use a filename for the screenshot that is fairly short and contains only letters and numbers.

  3. And finally, the grand jewel of them all - make sure that the extension is capitalized.

filename.PNG

I had similar issues trying to upload screen shots to Appstore Connect, what solved the issue was uploading the dimensions they asked for but changing the DPI to 72! (DPI was the trick!)

Try jpg guys ! Its worked for me. And to get the save button activate you need to put some text in the text area.
