Anyone know how to change the alarm volume in iOS 10 beta. Not the new bedtime/wake up feature just the standard alarm. On previous versions you used the ringer volume but it doesn't work anymore. It's always super loud even with ringer volume/music volume on lowest?? Might be a bug?
iOS 10 alarm volume
This is what worked for me...
First, go to your settings/sounds and make sure your "Change with Buttons" toggle is ON (right under Ringer and Alerts). I then deleted my alarms and shut down my device (completely), which happens to be an iPad Air. Once I restarted my iPad and added my alarm back, it worked. I hope this works for others since APPLE is NOT responding to a major life need.
I used your advice for my iPhone and voila! My alarm is now working. It was a real pain to not have it go off this morning! I depend on that alarm clock. I also change the sound to radar, but that alone did not help. Thank you so much.
I'm so glad I was able to help!
Just downloaded and installed IOS 10.0.2 last night. Retested by setting an alarm to go off this morning.... alas this is still not fixed. Alarm merely vibrates and shuts off radio music. Not very effective at waking anyone.
Similar issue with alarm here. My ringer volume is on max. However the alarm only sounds if the media volume is not mute.
If there's a single volume bar in the media volume, the alarm rings at full volume; the moment the media volume is mute, the alarm doesn't ring at all.
The way volume works on iOS 10 is that you will have to adjust the volume using the volume rocker went that sound is playing. In other words if you want to adjust the volume of your alarm then you should do that when the alarm is going off. As the alarm is ringing simply decrease the volume using the volume rocker. This works the same for any other volume on to adjust be when you are playing a video game or when you are watching a movie. The key is to adjust the volume when that sound is currently playing. The volume rocker is built to adjust just the particular sound that is playing at the moment. That is why you do not find any other ways or sliders to adjust specific type of sound.
The latest IOS update didnt solve this issue.
- if the media volume is mute then alarm does not ring.
- sometimes, even when media volume is not mute, the alarm still doesn't ring.
This is extremely annoying..
this is exactly the steps that worked for me. on my iPhone 7.
Thanks!
I recently downloaded the latest iOS 10.2 version and my alarms are only vibrating now. Tried deleting and re-adding, didn't help. I tested it further, it seems Apple has linked the volume on their alarms to the Ringer lever on the top left of my iPhone 6s. Now if I silence my ringer(orange/red) at night so as not to have my phone ring or email alerts go off all night I am also silencing all my alarms to vibrate. I have overslept the past 2 out of 3 mornings. HELP!!!!!!!!
I was having the same problem. I read someone else's posts and figured out what to do and my alarm sounds are working now. I think the last update should have been followed with instructions. I think our phones are working like laptops. Try turning your phone completely off for a minute or two. Then turn it back on and hopefully it will work. My phone ring, timer and alarms were not working, but they are now. Good Luck!

I have iphone 7, i tried setting>sounds>Ringer and alarms>Add the volume to the max and unmark the box changed with buttons.. ur alaram will work fine and wake u up even if ur phone on silent.. good luck..
I can get my alarm ringer to turn down just fine, unless I have my earbuds in. I have tried to use the volume toggle button as it is going off, but all it does is shut the alarm off. The next time it goes off it is still full blast. Help! It is driving me crazy! I have an iphone 5s with IOS 10.2. I also do not see a way to change what my alarm sound is. I can change alert sounds, but not alarm.
Same issue here, great that you brought it up. A shame apple hasn't responded to it yet.
it's really frustrating. The sound is so loud that the speakers give an extra click when I turn it off! In the alarm and sound settings the volume starts low (the same as the volume is set), it slowly fades in all wonderful. But when it comes to the actual alarm going off, all bets are off! Highest volume and no fade in! Really frustrating. It sounds like the speakers are going to break,..
Everyone, get in touch with apple bug report. If we all do it perhaps they will address this more quickly. Bug report; http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
