If you want to simply update to the final version of 9.0 when it is released on the 16th, you should not update to 9.1 because then you'll have to wipe your device before being able to go back to the release version (It won't let you downgrade any other way).

Also, between now and then you may very well overwrite your iOS 9.0 backup with a 9.1 one which will make it inaccessible after your device is wiped and back on the release version of iOS 9.0.

So my opinion is that, unless you are a developer building an app against the 9.1 SDK and want to test it on current gen hardware, you probably should not update to iOS 9.1.

Download the iOS 9.1 firmware file from here and unzip it. Connect to iTunes. Hold Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) and click Update in iTunes. That will update your device to 9.1

You would be wise to take a full backup in iTunes before doing this. If you need to save Activity or Health data, make sure the backup is encrypted

Hi MacRR

Are you sure you want to update to iOS 9.1? If you want to simply update to the final version of 9.0 when it is released in 5 days, you should not update to 9.1 because then you'll have to wipe your device before being able to go back to the release version.

So the question is, do you want to be on the release version of iOS 9 when it comes out in a few days, or do you want to remain in the beta cycle. There is no real advantage to having 9.1 because the changes it makes are really only for hardware that hasn't been released yet (6S, 6S+, iPad Pro) and won't make any difference to the iDevice you have now except be somewhat less stable.

Hey, Max108. Thanks for your answer. You may be right, it makes no sense to upgrade to iOS 9.1 if I now have iOS 9 GM. But if I have iOS 8.4.1 may look forward to five days after the iOS 9 becomes public.

Thank you

Devices on iOS 9.0 GM and also devices on iOS 8.4.1 will both be able to simply update to the release version from the 16th onwards.

I made a new installation and now it is the version iOS 9 GM, could now upgrade to iOS 9.1? or wait September 16, can I get your opinion? 🙂
