everything hanging

I am modifying this to just be a general inquiry to see if others are experiencing this or have any ideas. Nearly ANY application will hang at various options. I thought it was a Safari issue at first, because I was simply in Safari moving thorugh github and some of my apps. I mention the terminal app and ssh below. But in trying to start the App Store to maybe look for another terminal program, App Store hangs as soon as it starts up. Any app can seemingly hang at any point. Oddly, I haven't had an issue with third-party apps yet. Google Chrome seems fine. Omnigraffle seems fine.

Since installing 10.15.4 Beta (19E242d) I have had terrible problems with individual apploications/processes hanging. Audio, Zoom, browser, etc. But the one that makes it impossible to do my job is ssh from a terminal window. I am getting constant hangs a few minutes. or minutes, into a ssh session on a remote machine.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

UPDATE: I've done the standard troubleshooting. Killed startup items, running processes. I was seeing a few things about XCode in this update, so I started it out of curiosity. It wanted to install new libraries and extensions on startup. I allowed it to do so. Afterward, having crashed System Preferences while trying to get Alcritty to startup (see my earlier query about third-party apps) I decided to do a cold boot and shutdown the machine completely.

Now, I always follow Tech Support Rule #1 and try turning it off and back on again. (did so earlier) So I am wondering if it was the XCode update that updated some libraries. I've been operational now for about 30 minutes, a feat heretofore unrealized. I'll add a further update if the problem continues to be abated throughout the day or not.

I am also experiencing stability issues with 10.15.4 Beta (19E242d). Safari begins to freeze then the system becomes very unstable. Screens begin to occasionally flicker as well.

@rhamblet, If you have XCode installed, I would try starting it up and letting it download and update its libraries. I was getting the same type of behavior in Safari to the point that it wouldn't load pages and would hang constantly. I've been running all day and the system is relatively stable now.

Your suggestion appears to have resolved my instability. First time after years of betas that command line tools and libs impacted stability. Good catch! TNX

I've been using VS Code much more of late and hadn't been in xcode.
