App rejection 4.2.2. marketing app

Hi,

My company has developed a small app for one of our customers.
Our customer produces (giant) industrial dust collectors.
The app has two parts. In the first one, we show the product in 3D space. (The app created in Unity)
You can see how the product works and you can look to the inner parts with detail information.
The 3D model shown in an industrial environment.

In the second part, we show more information with text, images or videos.
The app thought for our customer sales team (or resellers) and for the customers from our client.

The app is free and works on iPhone and iPad.
You can see screenshots or download the app with on the other OS.... :-)

Now our app rejected because a violation against 4.2.2:

“Other than catalogs, apps shouldn’t primarily be marketing materials, advertisements, web clippings, content aggregators, or a collection of links.”

I can now see a couple of mistakes:
1. The App does not explain what you can do.

2. The second part of the app looks like a website. I must admit, the UI design is not “apple like” nice and clear…

3. useless for the most of the people, (giant) industrial dust collectors is a niche.

So my task is now to bring the app in the store. HEY! :-)

I'm not sure, if i should give this a try.

I think the way with the enterprise account is not right, because resellers use the app. The resellers are not employees of our customer. The customers of our client are obviously not employees too.
Therefore, I think the app must in the app store. I don’t know other ways.
My plan is to rework the UI, add some things like “how to use the app” tutorial stuff and reduce the website like information (images / videos / texts). Maybe I link to the webpage with deeper information.
I know that nobody can say: "hey this works! Do it!"
But in the end, I have a app with (only) one 3D model that you can explore, and it is a marketing or advertising app.
We can’t put more features in, like notifications or something else. Maybe we can use ARKit, but I have a fear that apple looks very close when somebody use ARKit and they want a great experience. We can put the 3D model with the in real size on the floor. However, that’s it.
Maybe some of you have also fight against windmills and give me a hint or maybe the concept is not good and I should not give this a try?

My question is, what can I do, if I want to develop a (marketing) app with 3D Content and publish it in an easy way to iOS devices?

Thanks for reading!

Hello Mad_ove, the same error also came to me. I am developing an application to show the news from the website https://www.ipparaguay.com.py/ and I have the same problem.

Were you able to solve the problem and how did you do it? Your answer would help me a lot

Hi mad_ove,

If the app is mainly designed for your sales teams use, you may want to look into how to distribute the app using an Enterprise certificate.
