Photos importing issue

I have installed iOS 13 PB2 on my iPhone with Catalina PB2 Beta on my Mac.

I took a bunch of photos and videos, wanted to import them into my photo library on an external disk, but it never goes through. I tried clicking on the iPhone when it’s plugged in and importing new photos, it looks like the Photo app does something but never imports them. In fact, photo libraries on this external disk show the same problem while those created on my Mac work normally.

Not sure what’s causing it, can it be the beta version bug or Apple does it on purpose?

Jan 2024 - Tried for hours without success

MacOS - Sonoma 14.2.1 Apple M1 Pro

Trying to import photos from iPhone 15 Pro Max - latest iOS Photos can only import about 1 photo per time. If I select more than that, it will process it very fast but in the end, nothing is imported. Also, It will go back to "Preparing to import from "iPhone ***" again and this itself takes more than a few minutes.

What is this. nonsense, Apple?

I'm having the same issue on 14.1 (23B2073) and I tried the solution above, but I can't find the /System/Library/Image Capture/Devices/PTPCamera. If you drag the photo separately to your Album, you will an error message saying "they may be in an unrecognized file format or the file may not contain valid data". Then I started to doubt my photo was damaged due to unknown reason during transferring. So I duplicated the file, and import the duplicate file, and it works! This is definitely an issue which needs more attention.

I have Mac Studio M1 with Sonoma 14.4.1, and have the same issue. Photo importing is not working, not directly from the camera and not from SD card or directory on my disk

There seem to be a couple of users trying to help, but isn't this forum for Apple to assist with replying to such ongoing problems. Similar issue for me and not sure why it appears unresolved after such a long period....

I had this issue too; tried multiple cables, no change. Some photos got suck on importing both on Photos and on Image Capture, but i only was able to see which one with Image Capture. It turns out it was .HEIC photos with missing info that were halting the whole import process. I deleted them on the iphone and the import process started working as normal.

I was having this same issue. I was trying to import around 1,300 pictures from an old iPhone 4s to my MacBook Pro. It imported 300 pics the first time fine, but then got stuck, doing the below resolved it:

  1. Close the Photos app
  2. Open System Settings
  3. Navigate to Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access
  4. Click the + to add a new item
  5. Go to your Applications folder and select the Photos app
  6. Click open
  7. Make sure it is toggled on and reopen the Photos app

After doing these steps, it imported all the pictures correclty except 100 that were left. To fix that, I closed the Photos app again, disconnected the iPhone, reopened the Photos app, and reconnected the iPhone. Then clicked 'import all new items' and it completed as expected.

Hope this helps someone!

Same issue here on an iPhone 14 Pro Max connected to a MacBook Air M1 2020. I can select all the photos, but none of them want to transfer to the computer.

Have added the Photos app with Full Disk Access and the iPhone is set to trust device. There's no PTPCamera in my list so that fix wasn't an option.

I've the same issue on a MacBook Pro M3 Pro with Sequoia 15.0.1. I've tried to add 6000 images to the photo app. It's of done for 2050 of them, but now I can't import anything.

I'm using the M2 Mac Mini with Sequoia 15.0.1 and I have the same issue, I cannot import even a single photo into the photos App

How pathetic is it that they give us USB-C and the same problem from nearly SIX YEARS AGO is still plaguing people.

Photos app doesn't work at all. I have to resort to air dropping enormous files.

Apple, worlds largest company doesn't seem to care.
