Odysseus42 I say partition for lack of a better word, but you shouldn't need to repartition anything. If you select APFS it will just virtually allocate space and will take only as much as it needs and creating this partition is instant. I think though if you've got some outdated setup that uses Mac OS Extended then maybe this won't work as well for you and you might indeed need to repartition your drives. I don't know, just guessing.

I downloaded Ventura using the link above. It took me to the App Store. Clicking on install started the download with Software Update on the System Setting. When the download finished an install dialogue opened up and allowed me to chose the partition.
Make sure you setup your system partition first using Disk Utility. Select Macintosh HD, Click the Plus button (+), enter a name for the partition and select APFS (you can choose to encrypt it later during the OS install if you wish).
you can install a second version of Ventura on a partition then upgraded that version to Sonoma:
