Overnight Notification Center message, "bash was prevented from modifying apps"
Wake up this morning and see this very concerning sticky message in Notification Center: bash was prevented from modifying apps It didn't say what parent program called `bash' so I clicked on the N.C. message to see if there was more information and it just disappeared (as if I had chosen to click on the X to clear the message-I wish I had taken a screenshot first). I have already sent in a request to Apple for them to give more detailed information on events like this. If there is an existing threat on a device it needs to be removed. The only thing that I know of that happened overnight was a SPAM email from "Norton Antivirus" came into my Gmail Inbox that wasn't filtered as SPAM and macOS announced it in Notification Center. I don't see anything funny in the RAW data of the email - and reported it to spamcop. Is it possible that a malicious email could contain html code that runs when it's announced via macOS Notification Center?

Is there a Spotlight volume size limit?
I am asking here after finding no information on this anywhere. There doesn't appear to be any documentation on this. I am having trouble with an 18TB volume over a simple SMB network. One iMac; one Mac Mini with attached storage, ethernet 10g. I have a 6TB volume that has no issues over the same network. Settings are all the same as far as I know. Both hard drives have a VolumeConfiguration.plist /Volumes/Media_1/.Spotlight-V100/VolumeConfiguration.plist /Volumes/Media_2/.Spotlight-V100/VolumeConfiguration.plist Media_1 is the 18TB HDD Media_2 is the 6TB HDD I ran diff on both volumes' VolumeConfiguration.plist and what jumped out was the different string in "PolicyProcess": diff /Users/john/Documents/media_2plist.txt /Users/john/Documents/media_1plist.txt |colordiff | $(brew --prefix git)/share/git-core/contrib/diff-highlight/diff-highlight 3c3 < 16D4F012-5E09-4D3B-ACD4-6768C0DA2048 = Dict { --- > 502C691E-AEE5-4729-B540-722F1C681B19 = Dict { 5,6c5,6 < PolicyProcess = mdutil < PolicyDate = Thu Jul 25 10:07:47 CST 2024 --- > PolicyProcess = STORE_ADD > PolicyDate = Tue Aug 27 19:30:08 CST 2024 Why is Spotlight choosing PolicyProcess = STORE_ADD for the 18TB HDD and PolicyProcess = mdutil for the 6TB HDD ? What is the difference between them and can I choose which PolicyProcess Spotlight uses? I can't find much from the network on the 18TB drive even after it has been re-indexed multiple times. Oddly it seems that while it is being indexed I get better results than once it has completed indexing. Thanks for any insights.

Screen locking while updating macOS - stopping update
I am installing the 14.5 beta2 update last night (however this has happened on non beta releases too) and I wake up with his morning to see the login screen. I enter my password and the update screen is “paused” with 6 minutes to go and then immediately begins completing. I’ve noticed this happening in the past as well and disregarded it. This can’t be normal during an update for the login screen to appear and stop installations. I was forced to post this in the beta forum by Apple.. "We removed your post “Screen locking while updating macOS - stopping update because it contained information about beta software. "

Can't find compatible version of xCode from App Store!
I previously downloaded Xcode from the Mac App Store but I recenlty had to Restore my installation of MacOS. This deleted Xcode from my install. I went to the App Store to re-download a compatible version. I see the icon showing that it's been downloaded before, cloud with a arrow facing down. When I click on that I get a message: We could not complete your purchase. Xcode can't be installed on "iMac" because macOS version 10.15.2 or later is required."First, why doesn't it just download a compatible version?Second, it shows that it's Compatible with the computer on the App Store page for this App.Third, looking in my purchase history the version that is compatible doesn't show up as ever being downloaded. So I search on the Developer site for an older but compatible version. Nowhere, in any of the version notes, does it say which version is compatible with Mojave!Am I missing something or is it supposed to be this difficult to re-install Xcode after doing a Restore?Appreciate any help.
