I had the same issue and panicked until I saw on macrumors other people have been having the issue. I am going to have to call support about this in the morning (I have a MBP 16” which this happened on). What device were you using? I am surprised more people haven’t discussed this, I went to update today and had this issue this evening so I’m waiting till tomorrow to try to call someone from Apple about what to do. I heard it may take up to 4 days after providing receipt of purchase to lift the activation lock....
