Don‘t remember exactly, but I think the issue was that I also had a local high score list that asked for a nickname. I removed the prompt and defaulted to the GameCenter user name.
Also, make sure not to use any phrases like „submit your scores to …“ in the app description.
It all doesn’t make much sense, but hey …
