Un-Bricked my 13 pro max today. Now my case may vary but here’s what went down. Verizon is my carrier. I ended up having them refresh/reset the ESIM. Then I had to remove the actual SIM card from the phone while powered off. Restarted with WI-FI on. Then turned Wi-Fi off and the world was right again. Apparently the ESIM overrides the sim now. No SIM card needed. This is what worked in my case. Check with your individual carriers before doing this as they need to push things from their end. I believe the iOS 16 has a flaw that kills specific SIM cards is the best I can gather. Highly frustrating.
