How to launch app from the CarPlay menu

My audio app is recognized on CarPlay but the app will not launch the app from the CarPlay menu like Pandora or Spotify. Everything works fine if the app is already running on the phone. What do I need to do? I am running a development profile with the carplay entitlement, lastest versions on the phone and xcode.Thanks in advance...

CarPlay: How to launch audio app in 13.x

Prior to 13, my app would launch from the CarPlay screen. But, since 13 and the introduction to scenes, it no longer launches the app and I cannot find any explaination how to configure it. Help! TIA.
