And to use the packages, it depends which partition you install from.

To install from same partition

1. Start update via mac app store

2. Move packages into /Library/Updates/031-82179

3. Restart.

4. Go to updates tab in mac app store and click update

To install from different partition

Just run the packages individually, carefully selecting the Sierra partition on which to install.

Being the first beta following public release I should point out a couple of assumptions.

Firstly that you have either the last golden master, build 16A323, or have installed the public release (same build).

Secondly that you have installed the macOS Sierra Developer Beta Access Utility which is available from the mac dev center.

How do you get it to NOT install. I was rather upset to find out that my MBP decided to autoupdate from the public release to a beta without my permission, especially given all the warnings that we all know and love with betas.

I'm looking to find a way to get back to the 10.12 public release but even if I do I don't know how to stop it from doing that again 😟

To unenroll:

Go to the Apple menu and select System Preferences. Select the App Store icon from the list of Preferences icons.

Click the “Change…” button next to “Your computer is set to receive beta software updates.”

A dialog will appear asking if you would like to show or hide beta software updates. Select "Do Not Show Beta Software Updates," and your Mac will no longer receive the public betas. When the next commercial version of macOS is released, you can install it from the Mac App Store.

The above instructions are for the developer beta.

Here are the corresponding links for the public beta 1 for 10.12.1:

Same instructions as above but this time they go into folder 031-82181 if installing from the same partition.

I did that, but the 10.12.1 developer update still appears as an update in the App Store Updates panel and asks to restart my Mac. How can I make THAT go away?

You may have to run this too to clear the catalog:

sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog
