Hangs on reboot attempt... (10.11.5b1 and b2)

Interesting, and I can only think it is related to the latest 10.11.5 betas... When I try to reboot now I get a hang on my desktop screen. It won't reboot even after sitting for a long time. I've tried to clear all the caches/etc, but nothing seems to make any difference. I was waiting patiently for the next update, which came out today, but it didn't resolve the problem. I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned it, which in some ways is unfortunate becuase it means it may be a local problem. 🙂

Anyway, just mentioning it in case anyone else can confirm if it happens to them as well. If not, I'll assume it is local and a possible conflict with some other installed software.

More troubling are the lines like this as part of the reboot.... Referring to my external USB drive that is always connected, and has not been a problem before....

Does this give any clues? Looks like the USB subsystem is going down prematurely?? It says "Restart still waiting on Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad", so that explains why the restart doesn't finish anyway....

{sigh}

Well, I don't get it...

If I boot normally, but hold the SHIFT key down immediately upon signing in (to not launch any non-Apple startup things, if I recall....) I can reboot.

So, I tried to take things out.... But nothing worked. Removing the USB drive before rebooting didn't help, so it isn't that. No other devices connected.

I removed (temporarly) all of the follwing and it didn't help:

/Library/LaunchAgents/*

/Library/LanchDaemons/*

~/Library/LaunchAgents/*

/Library/StartupItems/*

All items from the User preference panel to launch at login

There are other locations I must be missing, or something that is launching that doens't launch with the SHIFT key held down after login (not a safe boot, just after login) that is causing this problem on my system, but I can't find it... 😟

The culprit:

BambooCore.app

It was set as an "All Users" login item. I'm not sure why it caused the hang, a simple "kill" command caused it to shut down, so I don't know why it wouldn't shut down when the reboot/shutdown process signalled it to do so. But taking it out has restored normal operations.

As an aside, what a fiasco the "Bamboo" tablets where... Orphaned, for all intents and purposes, at least as far as I am concerned... Drivers not being updated, and so on... Wacom had a good reputation, but not in recent years at least not in this product line. Back to relevant conversations now... 🙂
