USB External Disk Mounting Problems on OS 14.4.4

Ever since using OS 14.14.1 and 14.4.2 Beta, I hhave had trouble mounting USB External drives especially after a start-up. Any suggestions on what needs to correct this problem. All of these disks work on my other Macs. Mac used is a 2014 Mac Mini with 5 GB.
