Messages app not opening.

I have messages app opened it has a small white dot under and have switch back to light mode but the app will not open so I can use it. I can force quite and retsart and still the messages app will not open. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Update: I followed this process and it appears to have resolved the issue.

  1. Right or Control-click on the Finder icon in your Mac's app tray.
  2. Click on Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/messages into the text field.
  4. Click on Go.
  5. Delete the following files: chat.db, chat.db-shm, chat.db-wal.
  6. Empty your Mac's Trash

Open Messages and it will upgrade Database.

Movie attached to one of the chats. If you delete the DB, the chats are empty. If you sync with iCloud, the attachment will be back, same problem.

Another strange thing is that i can browser the folder ~/Library/Messages via Finder, but if it try ls ~/Library/Messages in the Terminal I get the following error: Operation not permitted


Any ideas why this could happen?
