can someone explain this Apple tutorial step?

I'm new to Apple watch mainly because I am trying to develop a companion app. New as a user and a developer for Apple Watch.

I'm following an official Apple tutorial, but it seems to make a lot of assumptions.

  1. App groups
  2. Complications (horrible choice of terminology?)

In the "Update Current Complications from iOS apps" step, I have no idea how to do what it's saying.

https://developer.apple.com/documentation/watchconnectivity/using_watch_connectivity_to_communicate_between_your_apple_watch_app_and_iphone_app

  1. How do I choose a "Modular" watch face? What constitutes a "Modular" watch face?
  2. I deep pressed the current (default) face and it went into an edit mode, but swiping right didn't do anything. Swiping left offered more options, but I don't think it aligns with what it's saying to do.
  3. Stuck at 1 & 2
  4. Stuck at 1 & 2

Complications (horrible choice of terminology?)

No! that's a nice tribute to watchmaking art and industry. At the time, displaying attributes (like moon phase) required complex mechanisms to sync with time. It was (and still is) a complication. Art of watchmaking is largely about mastering this.

Note : if you want to discover what complications are, read this: h t t p s : / / w w w.watchmaster.com/fr/magazine/savoir-horloger/complications-expliquees-la-grande-complication

It is in french, but easy to translate.

A $2.7 million masterpiece

Naturally, there must always be a watch or watchmaker who outshines even the most complicated watches. Franck Muller, also known as the "Master of Complications," developed the Aeternitas Mega 4, which features 10 more complications than the Jaeger-LeCoultre model. The integrated calendar is valid for the next 1,000 years, while the movement itself consists of 1,483 components. Similar to the famous Grande Complication by A. Lange &amo; Söhne, this watch is unique. It was sold at a record price of US$2,700,000 to an American watch collector and solemnly presented in the presence of Franck Muller. Without a doubt, this model has earned a place among the most complex haute horlogerie calibers.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

I still think that naming anything "complications" in software development is a horrible idea. This isn't clockmaking. That's like naming a feature a "bug" because that was the traditional word in some ancient profession.

Did it answer your question on modular ? If so, don't forget to close the thread.

As for the naming, I kindly disagree with you. Complication is a very precise word to describe these add-on functions on a watch. Even when it is an Apple Watch. So IMHO it was really chosen on purpose. Just as we speak of the hands of the watch.

I do share the opinion expressed here: h t t p s : / / w w w.vox.com/2015/4/10/8382865/apple-watch-complications

This being said, technically speaking, Apple Watch complication is just an NSObject…

It was a refreshing discussion, thanks.
