Has anyone updated to 12.4? if yes, does the issue still exist?
I did update to 12.4. But the problem still remains. I was wondering whether it's a software problem or a hardware failure?
But after I googled my problem, it seems more likely a macOS Monterey bug(A dude got his 3rd replacement with a MBP 14" and the problem is still there)?
Just got my 14" base model MBP for 2 days.
It's pretty annoying when you cannot CMD + tapping to click to open a new tab in web browser.
And it seems like a common issue.
APPLE please FIX it ASAP!
Workaround by kevinios:
It looks like it's actually the time between pressing down CMD and tapping that makes the trick work.
Try again but don't move the cursor, simply wait 0.5 seconds or so before you tap. For me, the tap is then always registered.
If I hold CMD and tap too quickly, the tap is ignored.

I have the same problem. I just returned my brand new MacbookPro today.
I am worried that as of 2022/04/17, seventeen hundred people are experiencing the same issue and there is no official reply from Apple. In one of the posts from other people, one customer went to the Apple Store and was able to reproduce the issue in every laptop. In another post, a customer ordered a replacement unit and the new laptop had the same defect. This is a YouTube video that demonstrates the problem: https://youtu.be/l4daQQeuzNw
To me, it feels unfair to pay for a laptop where the Track-Pad is not working as intended.
There are similar reports dating back to 2020, and there is still no answer from Apple:
