I’m having trouble with my external WD HD. we had a few power outages last week and on Friday night I noticed my WD 3TB hard drive wouldn’t mount.
I’m using a Mac mini, M1 chip 16GB Memory running Big Sur 11.2.
I can see the drive under disk utility but it won’t mount, tried the mount button but I get an error message. Also tried reboots and safe boots… nothing.
I downloaded iBoysoft which was able to scan the drive and find all my files. The scan took about 36 hours to complete.
I ran to Costco and picked up a WD 8TB HD to restore the files to. The drive worked fine when I plugged it in. Showed up on my desktop and I was able to write to it. I started the recovery process which was slow but working. After about 36 hours it had reached close to 80% when the computer restarted because of an error. So the recovery never finished. Since the restart the new drive won’t mount either. It’s grayed out in disk utility. I tried first aid to repair it as well as tried to erase and reformat it but both failed because disk utility can’t open the drive.
Is my computer corrupting these drives or is it a coincidence and the new drive I bought it faulty?
