Safari 14.1 webgl performance death

The current webgl performance in safari is horrific.

Was fine in 14.0. What's happened? Is this being looked into?

Could you please provide more information? We need to your hardware configuration, and the web pages on which you see degraded WebGL performance.

It's not just webgl (which btw I saw also lost antialiasing), the 14.x is a disaster release. On my dev MBP I run now the 13.x preview to work because with 14.2 it's simply impossible to work with. It can't handle anything that does more than displaying static content. More disturbing, it fails to open many pages claiming there are issues (not saying what they are either). The old safari preview, Chrome etc open these with no problem, no errors or warnings. Try run rich content with both versions on same machine and be amazed how bad this version is. Really hope to see an update very soon.

Please fix that ASAP, I don't know if you are aware of Metaverse?

I've been experiencing the same slowdown in many WebGL-based code.

For instance, this simple example: https://test.looc.io/forest/index.html was running at 60 fps in previous releases.

Then it become abysmally slower with the new Ventura update(13.1).

However if you go to the Develop menu and disable WebGL 2.0, you will get much better performance if you are using webgl 1 (you will be out of luck with webgl 2 of course).

If this is not intended to conserve battery power, it is definitely a bug.
