Can I use a self-signed cert for local testing (FPS+cams)

In /etc/hosts I have 127.0.0.1 mapped to local.mydomain.com

The web software I am developing needs to use the cam, mic, and serve Apple Fair Play (we have it working in production).

Is there a problem using self-signed certificates?

If yes, what is a workaround, how do I get an "not self-signed" cert?

OK: Given that I must select a tag and none of them are useful, I must in the wrong forum or site. Gonna choose a tag at random and hope for the best while I search for where to ask this...
