Bug in TextEdit - Opening an existing TextEdit file displays it as blank i.e.empty!

Hi

On Big Sur I get this troubling issue that when I open a pre- existing TextEdit file which already contains text, it displays as blank i.e. as empty.

I have to repeatedly open the file before the text is displayed! Sometimes the only thing that works is to quit TextEdit and try again.

I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 on a Macbook Air.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Ash

I have the same problem with Big Sur 11.6.5. The strange thing is that a double-clic on an existing .txt or .rtf correctly displays the text. It is the File/Open menu that reluctantly displays a blank page.

An SSD reformatting + a full macOS re-install did not cure that problem.

Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks A
