Big Sur panic when connect/disconnect usb-c dock

Big Sur panic when connect/disconnect usb-c dock (tested with many usb–c docks including baseus, ugreen, non apple – not reproduced with apple multiport adapter).

Problem persist! I have many panics every day!

Same issue with dock station when monitor connected to dock (Display Port). HP USB-C Dock G5. Seems it's only affected MBP 16. Tested on 11 MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019).
Big Sur 11.3.1 (11.0.1, 11.2.3, 11.3, 11.3.1)

"Glad" to hear I'm not the only one .

Symptoms
  1. Having the same issue with my 2 CalDigit USB-C Pro docks (one at home, one at work). When I move my MBP 16, 2019 between locations, my MBP crashes about 10-15 seconds after reconnecting to the dock at the new location.

  2. Also, can happen if I power cycle my dock (not consistently thou)

  3. Dis/Re/connecting to the same dock seems to be better (only 1 crash during my testing) (in a time period of a couple of minutes)

Causes (possible)
  1. The issues started occurring after the BigSur update 2 weeks ago to 11.3.1 from 11.3.0

  2. Since I have 2 different docks, the only thing in common is my MBP & BigSur update, I think that was the culprit.

  3. Attached is the latest crash report from Monday.

Solution (attempts)
  1. Tried resetting NVRAM

  2. Tried resetting SMC

Talking to support
  1. Contacted CalDigit support - they have no suggestions, other than saying they had no other reports of this issue.

  2. I submitted every crash report to Apple, also tried my luck on the community forums, to no avail. The suggestion there was to wipe OS and restore from backup (not sure how that would help if the problem has to do with OS update), but will attempt that next, (over the weekend) just to eliminate it as a possible solution.

P.S.:
Also getting a bit frustrated, with all the crashes.

Just adding another crash report from last Friday

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) + ZMUIPNG dock same problem. Started happening after update to BigSur. I'm currently on 11.3, so based on previous comment likely I'll not get problem resolved on 11.3.1 :( This is my first ever MacBook, guess what is my impression right now
I'm having the exact same problem with no peripherals - MacBook Pro (16-inch 2019), 2.3 processor.

I'm having the exact same problem as described above - multiple crashes a day, occurring after the latest upgrade to 11.3.1. The crashes occur at random times - everywhere from restarting Docker to visiting target.com or even waking up my machine from sleep. I rarely have any notice, but during a handful of times, I lose Internet/VPN connection for a second or two before fully crashing. I've seen so many different error messages that I have a separate text file with a number of them:

"Possible memory corruption: pmap_pv_remove(0xffffff8745b18b40,0x7f805f265000,0x1000, 0x10000001000000, 0xffffffa151a33334, 0xffffffa151a332f8): null pv_list, priors: 2"@/AppleInternal/BuildRoot/Library/Caches/com.apple.xbs/Sources/xnu/xnu-7195.81.3/osfmk/i386/pmap_internal.h:903

I've run various diagnostics tools, booted in Safe Mode, reset NVRAM, no luck for anything. Earlier this week, I made it 28 hours without a crash, but now I'm back to multiple crashes a day.
Same Problem here "panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8013a9f6b6): [kext.kalloc.2048]: element modified after free "

MacBook Pro (16 Zoll, 2019)
2,3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
Display 27-Zoll (1920 × 1080) via DP over CalDigit 3 Station.
It seems like if the Laptop goes into sleep / Screensaver... If i wake up, or nearly EVERY morning = it reboots because it crashed somewhere in Night.

I'm getting the same problem. Macbook Pro 16 (2019). Seemed to start occurring after a recent Big Sur update:

All it takes to run into this issue is turn monitor off then on, don't even need to disconnect any cables
Reproduced in 11.3, 11.4, 11.5 beta 1 too. Not reproduced in 11.2.3 and early OS builds. Temporary Fix: Downgrade to 11.2.3 with full installer.
I'm having the same issue every day since last OS update. Macbook Pro 16 with ZMUIPNG USB dock.

Downgrade to 11.2.3 is not workaround anymore: this OS has ZERO DAY vunerabilities (fixed in 11.4).

Check the updates. Apple release macOS 11.4, this issue should be fixed
Not fixed in 11.4, 11.5 beta 1 !
Wait for macOS 12? :( Cant use external displays... Working with only the internal display is very disappointing. When you connect an external display, the operating system crashes.
When connect external display via Apple Multiport Adapter, it is not working. Install 11.2.3 – working... But ZERO DAY vunerability.

The problem still exists with macOS 11.4, when connect with my CalDigit USB-C Pro Dock.

Same problem for me for the last 6 months. Connecting a Dell or Belkin USB-C hub with a Dell U2718Q monitor attached (and on) make my MBP 16 2019 crash. Even switching on the Dell sometimes makes the MBP crash. I wasted hours with the Apple support. They even asked me to do a fresh install which I did and again wasted hours. Update to 11.4 didn't solve the problem.

same here. Support asked me to do a fresh install, no change. I also have a belkin USBC Thunderbold Station. Mostly will DP Cable to Monitor connected

I have a 16" 2019 MBP running Big Sur 11.4 and I'm use an HP Thunderbolt Dock G2 with my monitors connected via USB-C.

I get this all the time. Sometimes it can be all of a sudden in the middle of a session, but it is much more prevalent when I am plugging in/out of the dock. It also occurs when the laptop wakes up after being in sleep mode. I get the quick sound of the fans blowing and then it reboots. It happens way too many times. I have no other option in terms of trying other docks.

I report the error every time I get it. It has been going on since the Big Sur upgrade.

Apple, where is our support? When this issue will be resolved? The panic crash happens each day!

same issue in 11.4. well this is frustrating? Hope this can be resolved ASAP. It is crashing also every day for me..

Apple obviously doesn't fix bugs anymore but introduces new ones (like HDR video playback shows white windows on external displays). And doesn't care about it. The devices are obviously not meant to be used anymore, WLAN, Bluetooth, keyboard, screen, these are all things that should better not be used. Just like the sleep mode.

The software is too unstable, so that there are constantly problems, errors up to daily multiple kernel panics.

And instead of fixing them or at least transparently telling you that they are working on it, they just recommend you to buy new hardware or waste your life to reinstall broken software, which only frustrates you even more, because it doesn't solve any bug in Apple's software.

Big Sur panic when connect/disconnect usb-c dock
