Big Sur Mac Crash 4 times in the last 6 hours - 2 no-report and 2 reports

With the upgrade to Big Sur 11.0.1, my iMac Retina 4K 6-core intel core i7 has become highly unstable. Its crashed 4 times in the last 6 hours. 2 times it crashed with no report. The last 2 times I received a report. The odd thing is one time it crashed when I wasn't even using the computer. This time it crashed with Android studio open, safari open, the app store open, and amazon music playing. Otherwise, I wasn't using the computer.

I used to brag to my friends how stable and secure MacOS was. Not quite sure with this release.

Any suggestions?

  • Same issue, has anybody been able to fix it?

    "com.apple.driver.watchdog"

  • Same issue and crash report. Using 2019 MacBookPro 16,1, Big Sur 11.4. No peripherals attached. Microsoft Edge open but inactive. Running NordVPN and Kaspersky. It just quietly went to sleep and restarted. Kind of zen-like. The reference to userspace watchdog, however, triggered my paranoia.

Having exactly the same problem with iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017), 3.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

I don't have much to add on previous replies, crash log looks the same, so I won't clutter the message with them;
the only additional thing that I noticed is that it almost always happen when I am not actively working on my Mac (my iMac never sleeps, I have lots of processes running in the background, e.g. from the shell working with remote connected servers; but it is set to lock itself and put the display to sleep. I can actively work on the device, then put the screen to sleep, and an hour after the computer is shut down -- it's not even in the login page, it basically shut down as if someone pushed the power button, and I have to turn it on with the power button, login, etc. The only evidence that this is due to a kernel panic is the aforementioned crash report that I get when I am finally logged in.

Any comments and/or advice will be highly appreciated.
I have exactly the same issue.
For my iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) 3,5 GHz Intel Core i5 quadricore / On Big Sur : 11.2

My iMac crash especially during the night when I'm not using it.
Each day I come back to my office, I notice my iMac has reboot.

I hope to see soon a solution by Apple.

Same problem after Big Sur installation with iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019), few BSODs in a last week...

Same here crashes when left alone. I have a monitor attached with thunderbolt 2. Very annoying and I see no fixes here yet.
yep, same where. iMac 27 late 2015

Very annoying. Restarts usually when I'm not using it. Same error

Interestingly enough - I am having the same problem with Big Sur. But I also had it on High Sierra since December or so.

It only seems to happen when I have external monitors connected. On High Sierra, changing from HDMI connection to Display Port connection solved the problem. But I upgraded to Big Sur the other day and now it is happening with both.

I'm with the same problem. I've erased my SSD, reformat it and re-installed the Big Sur. Apparently it was solved, but no.
I downgraded my Mac OS to Sierra, and everything worked fine. Than, I've installed Big Sur again, and the problem remains. I don't think that it is related to the hardware. Considering the number of people facing the same, a fix should be released ASAP.

panic(cpu 2 caller 0xffffff800bfee1e6): Kernel trap at 0xffffff800eb7f03f, type 14=page fault, registers:
Just wanted to add that I am having the same issue. I have it over night and while I am working on it. I am working on a premier pro project. I have been trying to export it and just as it gets to 99%, it crashes. I have had the issue doing other things as well, so I do not think it is isolated to Adobe, but it's possible that I had acrobat open or creative cloud was doing something in the background. I do have a second monitor, so I am going to unplug it and see if that solves anything - at least long enough to get this video exported.
Same problem:
  • iMac Pro (2017)

  • happens when I go away, screensaver kicks in or when I activate the screensaver (with password lock) by moving my mouse to a hot-edge

  • 2 external monitors (left, right) via USB-C/Thunderbolt to HDMI connectors

  • 1 NAS via Thunderbolt connected

Same problem here, iMac 27” 2020, 8GB of RAM.

I’ve added the RAM information because I’m starting to think that it could be an out of memory problem, it happens when I’m using Android Studio with either iOS or Android simulators.
It happens ONLY when I have an external monitor plugged via USB-C to HDMI, never happened with external monitors connected via AirPlay or iPad with sidecar or USB-C.
It happened both with Catalina and Big Sur.
It seems completely random and it’s becoming unusable. Those PCs cost almost 3000$, it’s absolutely unacceptable
I have the same issue and I noticed this issue happens when switching between GPU. if settings "Automatic Graphic switch" on when screen saver shows or HDMI plugged computer switches to the Radeon GPU and it freezes. Issue is fixed when I switched "Automatic Graphic switch" off and now computer always uses Radeon as GPU. This is not ideal and permanent solution if you are using the laptop on battery but seems like apple doesnt pay attention to this issue so trying to make ways around it

I am having the same problem since upgrading to big sur. The same issues as outlined above. I have no external hard drives or monitors attached. Adobe creative cloud and software is unusable at the moment with constant crashing - the computer will often just turn off completely. When I use photoshop every time I take an action the image interface flickers which I have never seen before in all my years of using it. The computer is shutting down when Im not using, it doesn't wake up when I touch the mouse, it has a slow start - up and on the login page the keyboard is slower, the mouse freezes for a minute or so and the little icon on the log in page has become pixelated. All of this since the upgrade and all issues started at the same time. Ive had some crash reports and Ive sent the reports but like others I don't always get a report to send. Please help apple
