Big Sur Mac Crash 4 times in the last 6 hours - 2 no-report and 2 reports

With the upgrade to Big Sur 11.0.1, my iMac Retina 4K 6-core intel core i7 has become highly unstable. Its crashed 4 times in the last 6 hours. 2 times it crashed with no report. The last 2 times I received a report. The odd thing is one time it crashed when I wasn't even using the computer. This time it crashed with Android studio open, safari open, the app store open, and amazon music playing. Otherwise, I wasn't using the computer.

I used to brag to my friends how stable and secure MacOS was. Not quite sure with this release.

Any suggestions?

I managed to solve this problem by resetting OneDrive. From Microsoft:
  1. Quit OneDrive. (Select the cloud icon in the top tray, then select Settings > Quit OneDrive.)

  2. Find OneDrive in your Applications folder.

  3. Right-click OneDrive and select Show Package Contents.

  4. Browse to the Contents > Resources folder.

  5. Double-click ResetOneDriveApp.command (or ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command, if you're using the standalone app).

  6. Start OneDrive and finish the setup process.

Same here after upgrading to Big Sur and installing Avira Antivirus...
is there any fix yet?

been experiencing this for the past three months, ever since I upgraded to macOS 11.2.

my machine is 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display (Early 2015).

I've done practically everything:

  • Disabling login items
  • Reinstalling macOS from Recovery Mode
  • Constantly resetting NVRAM and PRAM just to get out of the boot loop
  • Wipe clean my MacBook and installed a fresh copy of macOS Big Sur
  • ditch this Mac and get a new one

I have been having these a lot lately. I am having flashbacks from Windows ME.

userspace watchdog timeout: no successful checkins from com.apple.WindowServer in 120 seconds

I think this was an issue durring one of the last updates in OS X.
same problem here - IMAC 2017 with Big Sur 11.3.1.
crashes almost daily - never had this before.

First i suspected overheating and activity monitor showed almost 99% CPU time for one drive (which i never use). I de-installed one-drive and then unit worked fine. After upgrade to 11.3.1. Big sur now these crashes. Big headache.
Same issue here.
Apple, please help!

My Mac panics every time I try to run Visual Studio (on Windows, Parallels Desktop) and try to debug an iOS app (which runs Xamarin on Mac => Xcode). The problem starts to occur since updating to XCode 12.5.

So this is still happening just now it is a different error than Watchdog now it is saying AMDFrambuffer and it is crashing randomly when I am using it.

What I have done so far...
  1. reset using all key combinations at startup

  2. delete hard drive and reinstall

  3. turned off power saver features with monitors

  4. selected mac color profiles for external monitors

  5. pull hair out and consider going back to Windows

I run 3 external monitors one 27" LG 4k and 2 24" dell HD monitors off of my iMac Pro. System and error is as follows...

Code Block

I thought I had solved the issue with OneDrive, but NO. I was wrong. It did slow the number of crashes but now it has become more erratic than before. Some things seem to be consistent, though:
  • TimeMachine starts failing to back up

  • Office365 apps begin to crash (and this is due to problems accessing Profiles)

  • Memory hogs say apps should be closed (even though they are not clogging - as seen on Activity Monitor).

  • When trying to reboot before it crashes, computer closes all apps but won't reboot - it gets stuck "after" closing the Finder

So you force shut down. When you restart the computer, all your personal logins on browsers are gone, all your Finder Windows are closed (Safari even closes all open windows - and returns to older instances, not the one before restart) and Office apps are able to reopen again. OneDrive may or may not be open.

So something happens in the library since it destroys part of the cache and personal data saved on browser.
this happens to me for months now, went over every update and no fix in sight.
what gives Apple?

Same issue, has anybody been able to fix it?

"com.apple.driver.watchdog"

Same issue, I suspect external monitors. As someone pointed out, no problem with Win 10 in forever. This is my first Mac, I have no delusions about stability, it immediately trashed my exfat RAID. This is the third version of the OS. Apple Support: Did you reboot? Not impressed.

I don't have any solutions, but wanted to say I have the same issue with a 2017 iMac, using two external monitors.

Same issue and crash report. Using 2019 MacBookPro 16,1, Big Sur 11.4. No peripherals attached. Microsoft Edge open but inactive. Running NordVPN and Kaspersky. It just quietly went to sleep and restarted. Kind of zen-like. The reference to userspace watchdog, however, triggered my paranoia.

I have the same issue with BigSure 11.4 (and earlier versions of BigSur).

I installed BigSure fresh on a MacBook Pro (15-inch 2019) 2,3GHz 8-Core Intel Core-9 32GB memory Radeon Pro 560X 4GB

I have an externan Monitor (Dell U3415W) Previously i connected it via HDMI and an adapter but since a month ago I use a Belkin Thunderbolt-3 Dock Pro where the external monitor is connected through DisplayPort. The problem exists before I changed to the docking station but maybe is a little more frequent now.

It is not unusual that it is either Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Teams that are the app that stop working first but there are others as well. I mostly work with IntelliJ or Visual Code with both Teams and Slack running. Also use Mail and Safari a lot. For anti virus I use Avira (only AntiVirus Pro).

I also get screen freezes from time to time that seems to be shorter than the time out so I usually just wait (frustrating) till it unfreezes and can then continue to work. When I check the Activity Monitor after the freeze the Window Server is usually pretty busy.

Apparently something is bothering the Window Server but the question is what. Before BigSure this happened maybe on or two times per year now its several times per week.

Please Apple, fix this!
