Hardware requirements for Xcode 11

Can the MacBook Pro 2020 i5 (1.4GHz Quad-Core and 3.9GHz boost) run Xcode 11?
My friend has one too and he complains about the preview being a little laggy. He says: If you have a simulator running while programming the typing experience is worse, letters only appear on the screen with a small delay.
Is 8GB of RAM enough, not just right now but also in the near future?
What would you buy right now, I want a MacBook Pro for sure but don't know with specs to choose.

I own an iPhone 11, can I use it as a live preview too?

Share your thoughts and ideas. Thanks :)
8 GB will soon be short, if it not already.
That may be the reason why it is laggy.

Most important factors to consider when choosing:
  • memory size (16 GB at least, IMHO)

  • Storage : you should look for 1 TB at least if possible

  • Screen size : Xcode requires lot of screen space to be comfortable. 15" is recommended or, may be better, an external monitor (21" at least)

  • Processor speed does not matter that much (but does have an effect of course).

iPhone will be very useful to test in real conditions (responsiveness included), but most of development occurs on simulator.

What would you buy right now...

I would wait for the Apple Event tomorrow...
https://www.apple.com/apple-events/
...then buy an Apple Silicon Macbook Pro!
There you go... just announced:

MacBook Pro with M1 processor
16Gb memory
512Gb SSD

That spec is the "sweet spot", in my opinion.
You can add more SSD (but not more memory) if you need it.
